Had to call the AA out via SEAT Assistance today. To be honest they arrived quite quickly.

Unfortunately AA man could'nt get his box of tricks (OBD interface) to see my ECU. I have noted that a few other people with mk3's had the same issue. In fact the unit wouln't even recognise a power source from the OBD2 Port.

Anyone else noted this when calling the AA?

Also thanks to Bill and Flapper for advice (damn throttle valves!)

There are quite a few reasons for this happening. In most cases it's just a faulty connection on the backside of the OBD port. It could also be a disconnected K-line (cut for some reason).

Forgot to mention that on my car the K-line broke after the ICE instalation, so I had to find it and reconnect it before being able to access the ECU again..:(
 
Had the same prob when my coil pack was done earlier this week - didn't power up the unit - took it into the dealer and it worked straight away with the standard vag tool
 
Dragging up a real old'n here, but...(praise my searching skills!!)

My dads an AA patrol mechanic, my mk3 Ibiza has the engine management light displayed, so got him to plug in his OBD transmitter hoping to get a fault code...but as stated above...the OBD power LED wouldn't even light up...meaning the interface wasn't picking up a power supply.
My dad uses this machine daily, and has done for a few years, but his never known it to not receive a power supply!

I'm going to try switching the radio on tomorrow night (as quoted above), but if this don't work, and other ideas?

What do you mean by disconnecting the radio? How?

Im hoping the fault is a throttle body leak, but need to get this verified before i begin to rectify this possible fault.

Any suggestion really appreciated!

Any idea which fuse it is?...or what is the symbol on the back of the dash panel thing?

I'l have to have a read through the hand book to find the right symbol = fuse.

if it's not - it's the instrument cluster one... I might have confused myself as the instrument cluster is block 17 on the diagnostics machine

Tried removing the fuse today to pick up a power supply through the AA diagnostic machine...

removed fuse 26 (instrument cluster fuse) but this then means the engine won't start. The engine needs to be running to pick up a power supply for the machine to work.

So anybody got any further suggestions????
