ABF Rocker Cover Gasket

I replaced my rocker cover gasket a couple of weeks ago and after removing the manifold and rocker cover I noticed that the new gasket set had a ridge all the way around.

It looked like it should have fitted into a groove on the lip of the cover but there wasn't one!

I trimmed this lip off as it didn't seem to want to compress enough to seal. The rocker cover is leaking again :D

My question is... Should the gasket have that ridge in it or did I manage to get the wrong one!

Cheers,

Mark.

there are two different ABF cam cover gaskets!!

depends on engine number (not the ABF bit but the numbers after that)

GSF, ECP etc may only list one but main dealer should list both

I see,

that would explain why my mates Mk3 Golf ABF had a ridge and my seat one didn't!

Will get get one from the stealers then. Cheers.

Ben16v: cheers for the offer but I will stick with the ABF jobbie.

Yup, I got given the wrong one from a Seat dealer ( got the one with the ribs to fit in the cover slots ) and GSF supplied the right one instead. The GSF one didn't have the ribs etc and fit fine.

Are the two rocker covers interchangeable?

I have an ABF but have polished up a rocker cover with part number 027103475E - looking at the cover, it has space for a ridge in the gasket...

The dealers said that for the ABF:

Up to?? >> 031 251 the part code for the gasket is 027 198 025
After?? 031 252 >> the part code for the gasket is 051 198 025

But they could not tell me which gasket i needed, nor would be willing to refund the gasket i didnt use - useless arses.

Will this 027103475E rocker cover fit, and if so which gasket will i need? Thanks

The gaskets are not interchangeable mate. I had the wrong one and made it fit by trimming the centre spine on it. It lasted for a week or so and I had to change it so worth getting the right one first time.

in the end I got one of the Victor Reinz ones.

Sorry I don't know when the cross over point was mate.
