About to buy a used 2018 leon, should I be worried about cambelts?

Hi all,

I am about to pick up the keys for a 1.4 2018 leon with 15K miles on the clock. After a bit of browsing on the forum I see people reccomend a cambelt replacement after 5 years. Phoned the dealer who acknowledged this hadnt been addressed in the service book but policy is for it to be replaced after 50k miles.

Should i be worried?

Thanks,
J

EA211, I see service intervals of 210 000 km ... they might have been extended to 240 000 km as "svensken" stated.

VAG dealers in the UK recommend 5y/50k which is overkill as they want the service income. People have grown accustom to this but even VAG documentation suggests a much longer interval.

The EA211 engines are basically maintenance free IMHO.

They also claim 30,000 miles or 2 years on longlife oil changes, or 15,000 miles or1 year on regular oil!!

Absolutely no way in hell would i ever leave oil in my engine for that long, nor would i leave a belt for 210,000km. Their numbers are pure fantasy IMO.

I run my oil through an analyser at work on a weekly basis and even 10k miles hardly shows any wear on AA or any change in viscosity. One of the reasons that I joined the forum is that I wanted to see what kind of wear people are seeing on belts for the EA211 engines.

In my EA111 1.2 TSI, the original timing gear is in at 150k minimal stretch is detected via VCDS, but I run VW 504.00 oil and Mann filters every 10k miles or when it's in the shop.

I guess it depends on the type of driving done when it comes to oil. As someone who does numerous short drives, i change my oil every 5000 miles for peace of mind.

As a person who grew up in the states, I find the full synthetic 504.00 (or newer equivalent) excellent oil that can withstand anything. I usually go with a 10k interval for the crappy oil rings on the EA111 engines and for the turbo.

My gf did run it until the oil light came on and then added 2L of full syn oil but that was 75k miles ago (it has a capacity of 3.4L I think) and the engine hasn't missed a beat. The rest of the car has wore out from heavy usage and now stands at a hard 150k miles.

240 000 km for replace cambelt was the figure when I bought our first Golf mk7 with the ea211 engine. Perhaps they have change it to 210 000 km (minor change).
In any case very long distance!

"Jess1001" don't need to be worried with a car with 15 000 miles on odo.
