Not really as long as they are coding correctly.

I'm confused about the 00445 as it should be 00401 on the new cluster
on the earlier model that indicates the cylinders, on the new model it doesn't have the option to choose how many cylinders there are, I can only assume that the newer model only came with 4 cylinders, hence the '0'. The start of the code also has two 0's because the coding isn't needed

Before it would even let me change the coding on the new cluster it said too many comms errors and timed out. For what good it would do, I changed the old cluster to the correct coding though.

I managed to get a screenshot of the coding options for both clusters, 00401 won't work for the new cluster as its calling for coding for cylinders. But that is correct for the old cluster.

I thought that when I posted them as it didn't match your manual, but I checked again and it was right. Very strange.

Just to throw something else into the mix. I swapped back to the old cluster as I need to drive the car tomorrow and the warning alarm would do my head in.

I now cant connect to the instrument module at all. But I cleared the codes, ran the car for a few mins, then ran a full scan...

The instrument control module error (01317 - Control Module in Instrument Cluster (J285)49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent) seems to have vanished, so must have been either a faulty module in the new cluster or where the coding wasn't available for my engine, it couldn't connect.

Most other modules seem to connect and be fault free, except the instrument/immobilizer and ABS. The steering assist shows comms errors, even though the PAS is working fine after I changed the pump, could be due to the abs/esp module though as I believe they are linked in someway? While scanning it said it couldn't connect to the airbag module, said to turn the ignition off, wait 30 seconds and press any button, it hasn't even recorded the scan for that module.

I'm wondering if it may be worth trying to source another cluster the same as the old one, or preferably a proper cupra one. But then again, if I cant connect to it due to a dodgy connection, then I wont even be able to code it in. :banghead:

This sounds like a dodgy connection in the loom. Has to be!

Immobiliser and clocks are cluster. ABS and PAS should be separate. But without looking at Elsawin Wiring can't confirm.

They all do have one thing in common though. They connect through the bulk head into the engine bay loom. It could be a dodgy wire in the engine bay resulting in comms errors.

Looks like I'm going to have to get the cheque book out, I can do most things mechanical but anything more than minor electrics I'm totally lost.

Thanks for all your help so far
