Hi all - Im thinking of getting a seat ibiza 20VT but I dont like the look of the std head unit. Is there any way I can get my DIN sized nakamichi in there using a fascia adaptor or something?

Cheers

Try Autoleads, mate...

Not sure if they've got off their collective arse and made one yet, but its worth a shot! I know they do them for Ka(k)'s and other 'creatively designed' OE head unit type cars...!

Check them out online: autoleads

On their site, it says a facia panel is not available. Give them a call to see if this is still the case, because companies don't get round to updating their site that often... normally months or years!

Okay?

Matt.

Tried the website but no joy. Seems that the HU is integrated too tightly with the screen etc. Controls are all over the place (up the side etc).

This is the one negative point putting me off buying an ibiza and I dont want a leon. Might have to stick with my beemer :(

I want to get my nakamichi 6CD HU in there :D

The only other option is to make a customised plate by buying a black plastic plate (with all the holes) and cutting a rectangle for the new HU. Then I could trim the rest (leaving a hole for the screen) in black vinyl or leather or something.

Need to suss out mounting depths etc first though. Lot of work for what is usually a simple task.

Ah well - going to test drive a cupra today so Ill see if I like it first.

Thanks

The only problem is that you can't bin the standard HU because as you say the screen is integrated. But I think if you took the HU appart you could bin enough of the unit to make it quite small, then there would be more room to fit the DIN unit where the cassette hole is.... I don't have an Ibiza so I can't try it unless anyone is brave enough to let me try......

Problem is the warantee would be invalid and there is a chance the HU might get killed which would mean buying another one. I doubt that would happen but it's possible.

hi

i have a 2000 ibiza 1.6 sport. like you i also disliked the integrated radio a great deal. but on mine i thought bugger it and decided to cut out the radio cassette part of the existing head unit. i then took out the board that controls the heating and fan controls, made a new metal casing for it and ran a single din size head unit off the existing wires so that both units were powered. you have to keep the top half of the existing head unit powered so that the screen can still work and fan controls still work. it is feckin complicated and i couldnt ******* believe it when it actually worked!!! but hey lifes all bout takin risks!!

ill try and get some pictures posted.
i dont have air conditioning though just standard fan dont know whether this would make any difference but i can live with the window open.

hey all, i used to have a 2000 lazuli blue 1.4..... had same problem obviously. after mounting a normal headunit under the passenger footwell n getting pissed off with who ever gets in the car changing the CD's with me having no control, i decided 1 day i would cut the center airvents out. i moulded a DIN sized cage in there using fibre glass. fill it all with filler rubbed it down and got body shop to paint match it to the dashboard... job done! ive got photos but have no clue how to show them on here!.
