Hi Guys

Sorry, to bombard the forum with questions! I did try searching but nothing specific came up for this. Is it easy to add a set of rear speakers to my 3dr Ibiza? Is all the wiring there? Would it simply be a case of buying speakers and plugging them in? And would the stereo recognise them and add fader options?

thanks!

Excellent, thanks for that. I guess the speaker mounts are standard? Any suggestion for some reasonable speakers?

If you're looking for better sound, I'd suggest getting a 3 way component system, you can fit any 6.5" component or coaxial system in, but don't put aftermarket speakers in the back and keep your stock fronts, it just won't sound right
Keep us updated :)

id probably stick to the stock two way system, but Jay is right upgrade the fronts, and possibly add a cheap set to the back and install a new stereo. Even just a different HU would make a world of difference.

I'm going for 3-way passive system myself. So no rear speakers at all :) Im not the one sitting in back and its a small car so you dont need those mixing it all up. I had Clio RS before and I had 3-way active set. sounded quite good :)

Thanks for all the answers! You can probably tell I don't know much about ICE! :)

So, if I wanted to improve sound but keep the standard head unit, perhaps replacing the front speakers would be better? What on earth is a 3 way component system?!

you have a 2 way at the moment so bass/mid speaker and a tweeter for treble.

3 way is how it sounds. you have a larger bass speaker and a punchy mid with the tweeters on top for treble. Its just a pain as you have to cut holes in door cards or find somewhere else for them to go.

If you want to improve sound quality you have to change the HU, your sound is only going to be as good as the source. You currently have a HU with minimal power output driving speakers designed for that power. about 14-15wrms, if you then go and change those speakers for something aftermarket most likely to be 45-50wrms minimum then it just isn't going to make any improvement above a placebo effect.

The standard HU setup is pricey as SEAT don't make very many of them and they have to be designed around a specific shape for the dash, so guess where they cut corners.

Standard Din sized alpine is more focused on quality etc so you will get a far better source sound that will vastly improve quality, from this base you can then think about updating speakers and amps etc.

Bass for lower frequency(15-60Hz), midbass for mide section (from 60,70,80Hz - 2,5(3)Khz) and tweeter for 2,5Khz and above.

Sound waves are measured on Hertz and it usually is defined from 18-25 000Hz or 18 - 32 000Hz.

In chase of good quality you don't nessecary need external amplifiers (except subwoofer) to sound good. Amps gives you a bit more edge in sound and you can play it louder without breaking speakers.

If you want your car sound good without paying alot. forget it :)
You will need new Headunit (1DIN is more for money in this case) new speakers (use these most of your money you have to spend) and subwoofer with internal or external amplifier.
If you want to spend a littlebit more, buy some vibroplast or other sound dampening material.

Dont buy 200£ sub and 100£ speakers. Buy 200£ speakers and 100£ sub. :)

And I meantioned to say that I'm going for active set, so there are no external crossovers. All is routed thru HU and DSP (Digital Signal processor <- another chapter to better sound quality) :D

Someone can say something different but this is how I roll :funk:
I use Alpine W505r HU, speakers are still a mystery but think Im going for DLS (nordica for tweeter and scandinavia for midbass) Subwoofer is 12" flat kicker with 600wrms amp :)

Amplifier can not change sound for the better, it will only make sq worse. obviously the better the amp the less loss in quality.

I disagree with that. You can get that extra moosh (is that a word?) for putting an HQ amp. Mid-range specially like for extra power. I haven't got any amps on speakers 'cause I don't like to listen music so loud, its loud enough when my ears are bleeding :) You can burn speakers coil when not using amp and listening too loud. that is why original "speakers" don't last because people listen too loud too less power. :)

If you want 1DIN HU with lots of SQ, choose HU with DSP.. best for your money. Pioneer has few and Alpine has few also. Not too many differences but its what you like to use. I like Pioneer my self (1DIN) but Alpine in 2DIN.

You can disagree all you like but that would be defying the laws of Physics.

All an amplifier will do is enhance what is already there in a flat line, Hence why you can buy some very EQs to help with the mixing.
