Hi all, im sure you've all seen this asked 100 times before but I just keep seeing mixed answers everywhere when I try searching it online. im looking into leon's and i've seen one which is a 2015 1.4 tsi with 125hp. can anyone tell me if this is a good engine?

Ive heard theres a few models out there with chains and some with belts and I often see complaints about the chains, what are your opinions and what is actually the better option to go for out of the two. Also which the information i've given about the car can anyone tell me if this car has a chain or belt? Thanks

The earlier TSI engines had a chain which were prone to failing, however, the newer engines 2013 and above have got a belt.

Have a look at the 1.2 TSI, slightly less power but still powerful enough compared to the 1.4.

Thanks for the quick reply, I have looked into both, was unsure on the whole chain and belt situation. I currently have a 1.4 polo bluegt, but i'd like a change and if possible still have a bit of power behind the car, what makes you suggest the 1.2 over the 1.4?

I've had a 2016 1.2 TSI 110bhp Ibiza, my wife a 2016 1.4 EcoTSI 150Bhp FR and now she has a 2018 1.4 TSI 125bhp Xcellence. Out of the three i'd most definitely go for the 1.4 ECO TSI 150bhp engine. Nice acceleration, lovely to drive and power was there when you needed it. the 1.4 TSI 125bhp feels a little underpowered after driving the FR and as for the 1.2 110bhp Ibiza, I didn't like that car much, it was very underpowered unless you had a heavy foot, which it needed constantly.

But to go back to your question the 1.4 tsi Leon with 125hp should be a good car with a tidy engine. It depends on what you want to do with it.

Just my opinion.

thats the thing I feel like going any lower then a 1.4 would be too underpowered, the 140 and even 150hp engines dont very often appear within my budget which is a shame. ill haveto have a test drive the car Ive questioned only then can I compare it to the power i currently have in my polo which is the 1.4 act engine with 140hp

I’ve got the 1.2 TSI at the min and I’ve read a fair bit about the 125 1.4 not being much quicker than the 1.2 TSI.

1.2 TSI is good for round town and providing your not carrying loads is quite nippy, get about 450-500 miles on a full tank.

Give them both a test drive and see what you think!

I love those BlueGTs! Test drove one a couple of years ago and if I could have found one at the right price with xenons and climate I'd have gone for it. How have you liked it?

I love the car very nippy when needed . Would upgrade to a golf or 1.8 polo gti but they are way over my budget. So that's why I'm potentially moving to seat

I have the 1.4TSI 125PS, had it since March. I upgraded from a 1.2TSI 105PS Ibiza. Straight away it felt much quicker. I still wasn't 100% satisfied with the power so I decided to buy a DTUK Tuning Box w/ the Bluetooth App. It completely changed the car, made it so much faster. I'm running about 175PS and 260NM of torque currently, from a 1.4TSI! It's quicker from a standstill and top speed than a lot of my mates cars that include: 2017 Golf GTD, 2017 C200, 2016 320d. A lad at work has a Fiesta ST200 that shoots off like **** off a stick from the lights but I end up pulling passing him after about 70mph.

Long story short I say get the 1.4TSI 125PS and get a tuning box. You'll know why if/ when you drive it.

Where did you get that figure from? plucked from the sky?

I just checked the DTUK website and even they don't claim 175PS....

sorry, but that made me lol.... a 1.4 with a tuning box is quicker than a golf GTD?

OK

Golf GTD's have a factory quoted 0-60 of 7.5 (7.4 for DSG models). If you check anywhere you'll see that a standard 1.4TSI 125PS does the same time stock. Added the tuning box gave me the extra power needed. Either that or my mates lying about having a GTD and fitted a GTD body to a shittier diesel model.

I thought the 1.4 125hp is 9.1 seconds to 60? my polo blue gt is 8 seconds and thats 140hp and lighter then a leon

Dream on!
Let’s put the completely pointless nature of 0-60 times to one side for a moment, and address the fact you don’t seem to be able to read. 0-60 on a 1.4 tsi 125 is 9.1 seconds. The 1.4 tsi 150 is 8 seconds.

The 1.8fr with about the same power as you think you have is 7.4 seconds....
Golf gtd/Leon 184 is 7.5 to 7.9

With the box, an exhaust system and an induction kit, yes it's running about 175PS.

Oh really?
So what exhaust system do you have then that’s increased your output by an additional 15bhp?
Let’s just ignore the induction kit idea, that’s probably taken power away rather than gained any.....
Can you explain how does your tuning box increase fuelling and boost to take into account your amazing exhaust and therefore increase the power up to your claimed 175?

With a OBD2 Bluetooth linked app I read a 0-60 of 7.1 seconds. Whether I’m making this up or not I’m going off what the app said. If that’s bulls**t then I need an new app. At the end of the day, replying the the thread I’m happy with how the car performs and I couldn’t recommend it more.

I hope your forum name is not your real name as you’re advertising the fact in public that your under warranty 2018 car has been tuned, just hope your SEAT dealer isn’t a member on here!

Perhaps someone actually has a tuned 1.4 ACT, then 175PS I can believe.....either that or the app actually read 9.1 and not 7.1...(few dead pixels?) believe me you...the person who took the figures on my electric meter did just that...71 become 91, and a much higher bill!

But back to power figures...it all depends what you are used to. I had the 2.0TDI 150PS 320nm prior...that had some oommph...then went to a 1.0TSI 110PS 200nm (on a 200kg lighter Ibiza), felt a bit underpowered...but my dad going from a 95PS Mini One to a 110PS 1.0TSI, it's such a step up. Going down from 140PS to 125, you should be able to feel (not too much) the power deficit.

I guess if you tune / remap the 1.4 125, perhaps you can get it to around 150 ish mark...

Out of curiosity, is 175PS a dyno read out or claimed by DTUK. I mean with your mods, and high RON fuel, it's not beyond the engine of achieving that. However I am a bit skeptical about being able to out-pace a GTD that has 184PS and 380Nm. That said, I wasn't there...also while you were at it, did you remove the speed limiter?

Theres no dyno, and it also isn't claimed by DTUK (they claim 160ps) its just a figure plucked out of the air by a guy that has been playing too much Gran Turismo ;)
