Advice on a remap and warranty

i have been in the dealership getting a few things done and while i was there i asked about remapping...

at first i mentioned that i was looking into it and he said it may affect the warranty

i knew one of the demonstrators had a revo chip in it so i asked has that voided the warranty and he said no as it was done inhouse......

i then asked well if i had it done in house my warranty would stay valid?

he confirmed that was the case and i would pay whatever revo charge me as a normal customer.... (they just wont to make sure they can control it i guess)

now im split between to options

i am booked into have a p torque on sat the 6th (no way seat bristol can watch over that) but im wondering whether to have a revo (at the dealership) now as i want to keep the warranty valid (its a 58 plate so has just under the full 3 years left).

i look forward to your suggestions

you wont regret the remap mate. Its a fantastic improvment to the car, possibly get better figures with the P-Torque also, but if warrenty is an issue and they will deal with revo & will promise to keep the warrenty going then thats a good thing.

Unfortunately with 3 years warrenty i would want to keep it going. just MAKE sure its fine to have it revo'd maybe get it in writing.

3 years without mods is crazy, i couldnt do it lol, not even with a 300bhp monster from standard.

Thanks p-torque.

im just getting worried due to the fact that the dealer will permit revo but only inhouse which means they are up on remaps.....

what parts of the warranty would they void if they did? so then if there is a prob with the "clutch" (example prob not covered anyway) that i know to get it flashed first.

many thanks

im sure if a list is created then it would be good to have as a sticky in the tdi tuning section.

You need clear definaition from the dealership (in writing), what is covered by warranty if you get the remap from them.

Then it's a case of weighing up your options. I'd personally opt towards Revo if the dealer keeps the warranty - might be an extra £200 for the remap, but worth it for a 3 year dealership warranty.

Don't forget though, you wont lose all warranty (so if your windo wipers break, those will still be covered) - you'll only lose it on things that the remap could be directly responsible for (i.e. turbo, engine, clutch etc).

Get Revo & have fun while knowing your covered warranty wise.

But remember, GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING !!

Or if P torque do a switch box so you can revert it to "normal" when it goes into dealer, then that could be another option. Dealer, unless VERY CLEVER (and its very difficult to put those words in the same sentence.....) would never know.

Remember that the "warranty" probably won't be from Seat, just from that particular dealer who happens to have a "remap friendly" attitude.

And like ChrisUK says, unless you've got it in writing from them that your warranty will be unaffected by a Revo remap - then I wouldn't assume that you'll always be covered.

They'd only have to have a change in the service manager to someone less accommodating and not only do they know you've got a remap, but they might choose not to honour it.

Personally, from what I've read I'd choose P-Torque all the way and just not tell the dealer :)
