Hi guys, I'm about to trade in my '08 FR for a 2016 Cupra 280, but looking at Parkers it says the 280 was only made until November 2015 then the 290 came out in December. The car I'm looking at has a 16 plate and is supposed to be only 10months old roughly.
Does this sound correct? It's first owner was the SEAT garages manager at Preston before it closed and the stock got moved up to Broxburn. I don't want to buy a car that is older than it's meant to be or be suckered in by official SEAT garage sales reps.
It's currently priced just over £20k with 13k on the clock.

Advice needed quick as I'm to do the deal tomorrow after work.

Cheers.......Mad Jock

They do it all the time here in Ireland. In fact if you go onto Carzone you'll see a number of 280's for sale registered as 2016! If your happy with the price, model your buying and the car is mechanically sound then I don't see a problem. It's hard to keep up with the Cupra brand as they are "re-badging" every year. Some unsuspecting buyer might think he's buying a relatively new car (280) today when in fact he's already 2 models behind!

280's were built until November 15 that's correct. Assume the dealer took delivery around Christmas or the new year but the car was not registered until at least March 1st? Hence it gets a 16 plate. Isn't that unreasonable. There are plenty people on here wait the same time for the new reg too hit.

Unless the dealer is talking about a model year 16 car in which case that is accurate as they were built from May 2015 onwards. Alas my 65 plate 280 is a model year 2016 car with updated Nav and so on.

After all that though I wouldn't be paying 20k for it.

Mine is a 16 plate and its a 280, bought it in March 2016. It was sat on the dock as waiting for a 290 was something like 6 months +. Plus I have a lot more extras as I wasn't going to order them on a 290.

£20k seems not a bad price according to Parkers. Franchised Dealer: £22,895

Ok, many thanks for your replies guys. I bought it today from a SEAT dealer. The registration document shows it was registered on the 1/3/16 so guess they hung onto it for the 16 plate. Car is immaculate and I'm happy with the deal so here's to many happy miles of driving

congratulations on the new motor, one thing, just check with dealer or Seat UK when the warranty expires. It should run for three years from first date of registration, but it'd be worth making sure.
