Airbag light on

Hi,

Just picked up some friends and when I started the engine, my airbag light didn't go out as normal. Stopped and restarted just in case and the same. Light comes on with ignition and either stays on or goes out then back on really quickly after starting - (it doesnt flash).

Now I did move the seats to let the passengers in the back so could it be a loose connection to the side seat airbags? I checked the connectors best I could and everything seems to be firmly attached.

Is there a way to tell which airbag is causing the problem and is it one of those lights that needs to be reset by a dealer even if it is fixed? Typically the used car warranty ran out a coupe of days ago :-(

Any help gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Matthew

There is a connector under the seat somewhere which will have come loose, until thats fixed im not sure if the airbag will work if you are unlucky enough to have a bump.

Thanks for the reply. I had a feel under the seats and both cables appear ok.

Does anyone know if the light is always on even when a fault is fixed (i.e. does it need to be reset inside the ECU)?

Ordered meself a cable from eblag, we'll see if that can work out what is wrong.

Thanks

Ive never had this problem, but i would imagine most cars use similar if not identical systems. I would google it, im sure there are stages to go through to fix it.

I think as soon as the fault is fixed the light goes off, otherwise seems you wouldnt have some people on forums saying 'airbag light sometimes comes on.'

I did see one forum entry saying that the actual connector can need squeezing on properly, so might be worth wd40'ing it and making sure its tight on.

Mind you could easilly be a break in the wires? Moving seats is the most common fault on airbag lights, if wires are in one position then moved when the seat is moved they could possibly break?

Ok, it's a tell tale light that needs to be reset within the ECU - i.e. it does not go away once the fault is fixed. Can't remember the exact fault message but it was intermittant high resistance. If it happens again I'll properlly grease the connector. I've cleared it for now though.
