I have recently had to remove my glovebox to do a repair on my ventilation which required me to disconnect the airbag plug that turns the passenger airbag on or off. Now I have an airbag error light on my dash even though I have reconnected the plug? I have disconnected and reconnected the battery but this did not clear the fault. Other than an OBD is there something else to try?

In the future, you should really disconnect the battery negative cable before pulling any air bag/SRS related plugs - and then you shouldn't need to reset any lights.
