Hi,

The airbag light came on on my Ibiza TDI shortly after I was checking for blown fuses for another problem... (both electric wing mirrors not working)

I got one of those orange U281 fault code scanners to reset it and found 1 code - 01317 in the SRS system.

I've successfully erased the code several times but the airbag light doesn't go off and the code keeps reappearing.

What does this code mean?
And, what should I do next to sort the problem.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Thanks, Mike

Hi had same problem with my MK4 ibiza, the scanner i had said there was a fault but failed to reset it,got a vac com cable off flebay and reset it, it'snever come back on.
you need a fault reader that can read the K bus line in order to reset/clear.cheeper scanners only do OBD_ll and will not clear faults on the K bus line.
try posting to the VAGCOM forum on this site there might well be someone in your area that has VAGCOM and will reset it for you;)

also cheek the wiring to the seats it could be a loose conection/plug

By Mk.4 do you mean the 2002-08 Ibiza or the 2008-Present Ibiza ?

What sort of cable do I need to look for on ebay?
Do I buy the software off ebay aswell or download it from somewhere?

Hi,
by MK4 YES i do mean an 04 plate my car is the 1.9 TDI SE
there are various cables on e bay i brought this
VAG COM USB DIAGNOSTIC CABLE 409.1 OBD2 II LEAD VAG-COM
e bay item No260578746587
it comes with an email link to the software site but you can download the software from
www.ross-tech.com
i would recommend reading the on line manual on the ross-tech site for further information,
also note that VAGCOM has now been renamed to VCDS the lite none registered version will work with this cable:funk:

I've done everything I need to in terms of setting up vagcom (installed drivers for the cable, etc). Ive ran scans with VCDS-Lite and the shareware 409.1 vag software. It scans but cannot find any codes (but the airbag light is still on!)

Something isn't working right, obviously, as the U281 fault scanner picked up code 01317.

Any suggestions?

Hi are you doing an auto scan with vag com?
if so try scanning from the select control module
click on select then click on the 15- air bag tag and scan from there it should bring up any faults within the air bag system you can then hopefully re set from there:funk:

SUCCESS!

I tried selecting airbag control module and got the message "no response from controller".
I found another VAGCOM thread from this website which said go into device manager and change the com port assigned to the cable - default was set to COM 6 - VAGCOM only works on COM 3!

Loaded up VAGCOM found code 01317 again, cleared all DTCs....airbag light gone!

Thankyou essex ibza for all your help with this and saving me £££s!

Also fixed my electric mirrors aswell.

Used a multimeter to measure resistance across all the fuses. Fuse 11 (electric wing mirror supply) was reading 1 (i.e. broken circuit)

I had inspected the fuse several times and it is in perfect condition (doesn't appear broken) but it is broken some how! :wtf:

Ibiza at 100% for now anyway...

Hi, glad it all went well i forgot to mention the com port bit :whistle:you might find that you will have to reset the com port next time
(don't ask why it's something to do with Microsoft operating systems:wtf: well that's what an IT friend told me)

re fuses they can be a sod and it's always worth changing them with a new one if the fault is electrical.[B)]
A vag com cable is well worth the few quid that they want on ebay and has saved you a small fortune on stealers fees:funk::funk:

is there such a thing as a 100% perfect ibiza:lol::lol:

Mikey P8 & Essex Ibiz,

Hi gents,

Saw your posts regard the airbag light issue on a Mk 4 Ibiza. Purchased the lead you suggested, downloaded the vag lite softwear, lined up my Com port (I used Com 2 as it was free) connected the laptop and connected the lead into the car, switched on ignition and it found the fault - reset the fault and hey presto the airbag warning light on the instruments has gone out and so far remains off.
My original fault was that I was replacing a trim surrounding the radio, unplugged the radio and airbag warning light and that was the beginning of my problem.
Local dealership wanted £55 plus vat to turn light off via a diagnostic test. Also, they wanted £50 plus vat to supply the radio code. I told them to take a running jump, went out to Argos and purchased a new radio for £55.
So everything is hunky dorry thanks to you gents and this forum.

Warmest Regards
