I have just been to test drive a Cupra TDI, it was generally not in the best condition, but regularly serviced at the main dealer. When turning the aircon on it just makes a metallic hissing noise and does not really get cold (it sounds like the same hiss you get when using an aerosol thats run out). I was told that it has been re-gassed a few years back but it did not make much difference. Does anyone know what might be wrong with it please?

it sounds like it needs a regas but if it hadnt made much difference then there may be a underlying problem. My first port of call would be a regas. Was the display on the aircon unit flashing on start up?

I did not notice any flashing, however the chap normally has the blower turned off he said as the aircon does not work (not 100% sure if he had found the Eco button though).

I need to get off my lazy backside and get vagcom working with my win7 laptop to read fault codes I think. As my 20VT has been so reliable I've never needed to use it.

Mine does this too, not that bothered at the moment though as the weather is getting cooler!
