You can get an in-line booster for your antenna from most car hi-fi shops for about £10, this will vastly improve reception on the alana or any other HU. I replaced the Alana for an alpine unit and at first couldn't receive 5 live on medium wave at all, the booster sorted it out no worries

Tried the RCP option on the Alana and it did make a difference, but it still isn't perfect for me. I think the radio quality is poor anyway, never seems to be quite tuned in properly.
