Good morning ladies and gents,

ever since starting my seat ownership journey in the Ibiza 6J I had, I’ve had a hankering for some MK1 Cupra R split 5 spoke alloys, all these years of not being able to either find them or afford them or even understand wheel geometry I’ve found some and now understand much more about wheel set ups, problem is I don’t own the Ibiza anymore, I have a 19 plate Leon, the MK1 alloys are 18x7.5 ET38 and the MK3’s are on 17x7 ET49, so they’d in theory fit, as they run the exact same set up as the Audi S3, problem being the PCD, for what ever reason it changed from 5x100 to 5x112, so that’d suggest PCD adapters, now the problem is PCD adaptors would add a minimum of 15mm essentially giving me a offset of ET23, which would push the alloys out 26mm from stock (if my maths are correct). Which probably won’t do, do we know if there is a way of custom drilling the holes on the wheel hub to 5x100 making them essentially a multi PCD wheel hub? (depending on brake discs)

obviously I am totally willing to let my dream of owning some Cupra R alloys die, if it gets too expensive to achieve.
any assistance is appreciated even if it is just bad news.

thank you and enjoy your bank holiday weekend!

There may be insurance implications from modifying the hub in the way you describe.

I think I’d look for a set of aftermarket wheels that are a similar split five spoke style / design that have the correct 5x112 PCD for your car.

You are probably right with that, plus it is a big faff managing to get the bearings out to simply do it and then I’ve got to worry about brake discs as the original ones won’t work, the only other option to actually have the wheels I want is to have them CNC’d and have the PCD Re-pitched, but I don’t know how safe or not safe that is (doesn’t sound great to me). I will have a look I have seen some Ronal alloys that do look nearly identical and I think (could be wrong) they’re the same company who made them on the MK1 (people refer to the MK1’s as Ronal alloys could be just a name or could be linked I don’t know) ☺️

Are you sure the PCD has changed?

I thought VAG had used 5x112 forever, or is it perhaps they used 5x100 on older smaller cars Ibiza / Fabia / Polo. :-k. :-k

Hiya mate, on the MK1 Leon from the early 2000’s which the wheels in question are from were 5x100, I can’t honestly remember what they were on the Ibiza 6J when I had it without checking but I think even if it was 5x112 on the 6J a simple PCD adapter would have been fine as I remember being able to put a fairly chunky size spacer in it to make the wheels flush with no rubbing issue, the Leon I am very skeptical about because they appear to have maybe 20-25mm of room before protruding which I honestly don’t want to do for obvious reasons (just checked the 6J was 5x100 but back then if I knew what I know now they would have probably worked out back then because the spacers like I say were definitely 15mm+)

Current - and previous generations of VAG B segment cars - Seat Ibiza, VW Polo, Audi A1 and Skoda Fabia - all have a PCD of 5x100.

I had a mk4 Golf which was also 5x100, as was the mk1 Leon which was built on the same platform as the mk4 Golf.

Seat moved to a PCD of 5x112 with the mk2 Leon. The equivalent Golf of the same era - the mk5 - also had a 5x112 PCD.

No - you can't re-drill the hub.
112 to 100 is only 6mm less in radius and would half over lap the existing holes, and you can't add extra holes 72 degrees in between as there is extra thick section where the wheel bold threads are.

That’s what I thought and I did see that and thought that was out of the window too, the only other thing I can think is putting them on 205/40/r18 tyres but even that would be pushing the wheel out 17mm further out which I don’t know if is acceptable on these cars as I’ve not looked into the spacer options on a MK3 Estate, besides 205/40/18 is right on the minimum tyre for an 18x7.5 so not too happy about stretching tyres even if it is deemed an acceptable amount of stretch

'maybe' you could re-drill 72deg apart and convert to a stud and wheel nut, rather than a bolt?
Would need to do some research on hub thickness where wheel studs are used? to see if there is enough 'meat'
I would guess it would be a thinner requirement than a threaded hole?

edit#
for example - does the thin section of the hub have 10-11mm thickness?
