happy days(ish)

booked my car in with the dealer after seatuk said thats all I could do and try to claim some money back by good will guesture form.

But hats off to my local seat dealer, I know i slagged them earlier but they repired the car by replacing flywheel/clutch etc and put a good will guesture form in and seatuk agreed to pick up the bill for all parts, so I only had to pay labour(5 hours), maybe has i did have a full seat service history)

so a £400 bill was better than £1000, my faith has ben restored in seat

thanks all for your advice and help

Regards

Excellent news! Hoping this would come out like this :)
Nice one Seat!

ahhh...my heart sank when I read this.

This is why my car is at the stealers now. It is 5 years old though but only 36,000 miles and I don't think a clutch should go at this point.

1.9 TDI

Is there anything I can do, they are going to charge me anything from £700 to £1400 depending on whether they have to replace the flywheel or not?

I think Flywheel, Clutch , bearing kit and Labour was just shy of a £1000 at the stealers, so £1400 is quite a lot more.

You can ask your dealer to put in a "Good will guesture form".( my local dealer had an answer back off seatuk almost instantly) your dealer is obliged to put this form in for you

although you are way out of warrenty the flywheel failure is something seat are used to so its defo asking for help towards payment as the milage is so low.

Phone seatuk on 01908 425425

Mileage is low! But i'd say you'd need to be within 3-4 months of warrenty to get anything sadly :(

Thanks for your input; they confirmed it was the flywheel that's gone. They are going to put a new clutch and flywheel in for £1200 and replace the front suspension bushes whilst they're at it (another £300). The dealers are submitting a goodwill claim for me now (THANKS pantsdavies)

I have owned two cars in my life, both ibizas, both for 5 years each (ex demos) and both with full Seat service history. I just hope they will give me something towards it - and as I'm not working at the moment this bill has hit me very very hard.

Hi all,
My wife drives the SEAT Altrea 1.9TDI 05 Reg with 77k miles on it (she was area manager). I took the wheel on New years eve (short straw) and found it rough and gear change not smooth, thought there was something really bad and it was, the fly wheel and clutch gone. 6 month out of warranty (probably only covered to 60K anyway)
Were they recalled as it seems to endemic in VAG TDI engines???

So small local garage in Perth (Crichton Donaldson Ex Audi/Vag Technician) did the job and it cost me all in £640.
Certainly not welcome at this time of year.
BUT DONE!!! What a difference quiet as mouse and smooth as silk changes etc.
As it is such a slow progresssive failure it went un noticed for a long time!

mechanic said it could be catastrophic if flywheel breaks when travelling along!!!

Same thing happened to a friend of mine but luckily it was just about still in warranty. Made some difference though.
