Altea Clock spring / squib replacement

Hi, I'm a newbie on here and would like some help please. I've got the airbag light on my Altea 2011 and the horn doesn't work, I'm assuming its the clock spring as I'm sure I heard it starting to go when driving around.

The part number on the squib is 5K0.953.569C

My question is this, if I get a replacement part of ebay with the identical part number, will there need to be any recoding done after changing it?

Many thanks

No recoding to my knowledge. I replaced my wife Seat ibiza 2006 squib years ago. Same symptoms as you described. I was chuffed when i put everything back together and it just worked right off the bat. I would assume the same. Please make sure you disconnect the car battery before attempting this repair

Thanks for the info. I sent off the squib to a repair service on ebay, cost £110. I fitted it back on and the airbag light was still there so had it reset at a vw specialist for £20. It's been working fine now , so total cost £130.

Pulling fuses under the hood with the battery still connected causes the airbag warning to go on. Did that with my old Ateca when I was trying to work out why it wouldn't start. Never a good idea to pull fuses if you don't know what they are (lesson learnt). People fitting dash cameras do the same pulling fuses in the body of the car as they hunt down the pin out.

Yes you need your own dongle device, coding or one sold for clearing errors or the dealer. They did mine free but was when I was having terrible issues with the electrics having a mind of its own.
