Has anyone put the aluminium vents and gear surround in an FR? Just wondering if its too much of a mis-match with the 'titanium' dash. Pics would be good!

the aluminium looks spot on in the FR, i had it on my old one. Unfortunately the dealer cocked up on this one and put the chrome one in, which is'nt all bad but i preferred the Aluminium look

Do you have any pics of your old set up?

I've been spending the moring trying to fit the outer one to my car, but I just can't work out how you get all the clips to go in at the same time. Swearing it it dosn't help.

They look suprisingly chrome like in those photos. I also got the ones for the gear surround and I now want more bling. ;)

They wern't that bad actualy, once you get the trim ring out the unit is loose then I found the easyest way to do it was to put it from the air line and flip them through 180 degrees so they are facing in and pull them out backwards.

Outside ones are easy, as is the gear surround. Inside ones are a bugger to do though. I'm not gonna bother with them in this car, although I might get the gear surround done.

I have a question regarding the outside ones.

I did not fit these, they came on the car when I bought it - but they do not seem to be pushed far enough back, as the plastic covers at each end of the dashboard keep popping loose since the ring does not hold it on properly.

Are they easy to pull off? I dont want to break anything - but want to see why they dont fit properly

I fitted mine myself and they are the same. I think a lot of it is due to the poor quality of the end cover mouldings which are not a good fit in the first place.

To remove the vents you have to remove the end covers on the dash, then squeeze in the tabs on the side of the vents and pull them out. It's a bit fiddly but can be done with patience. To dismantle the vents and rings I think you have to lift up the tabs on the rings and pull them apart. When reassembling it is quite tricky as you have to line up all the components perfectly or they will keep springing apart. When they are correctly aligned it all snaps together with a satisfying click. The vents are then simply pushed back into place, making sure that the ends are located in the ventilation pipes properly:)

So its not worth taking apart then if its like that on most cars?

Its little things like this that do my head in!
