Way to get around the updates for PS3/Xbox360 is to get a wireless router and then when you park your car at home in the drive you can connect up and let it download its updates.

Depends whether you've got the a wireless adaptor in your console tbh. If you haven't then you're stuck with wired.

Also you're going to need some monster inverter to produce over 300W sustained from a 12v feed...
