My three month old 4000 mile TDI Sport has develeoped all the usual quirks that have been reported on this site - rattling speaker grill, intermittent fault with passenger seat seat belt warning etc.

More recently there appears to be an extremely irritating itermittent knocking sound coming from somwhere down the driver side trim. It almost sounds like something loose within the door/ trim but the occurrence does not correspond to going over bumps and is entirely random. Tried everything (seat trim, seat belt, window up/ window down etc...even put some grease on door hinges in case they had dried out in the hot weather) but can't seem to pin down the cause).

Wondering if anybody else has exepienced this or may have any idea as to what it is. Otherwise it is a trip to the dealer as I can't stand another 6000 miles of this! (maybe I can get that damned seatbelt warning light and binger fixed at the same time with a diversion to Westec for a Revo treatment afterwards)

Any ideas?

about the seatbelt sensor, i believe there's a plug under the seat which u can disconnect and then the sensor will be permanently turned of... about the knocking in the door... i have that too and i don't think it's only the round speaker grijj... i guess we'll just have to go to seat and make them take out the door panel and see what's what

i noticed knocking down by my feet, it turned out to be the cover right above the pedals, it seems to use gravity to stay, as its only screwed on at the front and uses gravity to sit on a little ledge by the bonnet release, i saw part of the wiring loom behind it, moved it a bit so it presses down on the shelf and wheyhay no knocking, i dont know how long it will stay and bumps could jolt the cables back to where i found them but it stopped the knockin.

its worth lookin as the shelf does appear a bit flappy, i'd thought it had fallen down but no its meant to be there its stopping it from riding up thats the issue.

I've got the same rattle on the passenger door. Onkly happens intemittently at speeds above 60. I've tightened the main speaker etc but its still there. Took it to the dealers today and they took it for a test and it wasn't there. I drove it home and itv wasn;t there. went for a take awaytonite and its back. I can pin the rattle down to either front of door or the dash in that area. If anyone has sorted this prob (either by themselves or througha dealer) let me know what sorted it. It's the only prob I've got with the car.
Thanks
Soapy

HarryK,

I know exactly the knocking sound you are experiencing. I have exactly the same thing towards the rear of the driver's door / centre pillar in my new Toledo Tdi.
Could be something in the locking mechanism methinks.
Funny, it seems to be worse when the car is warm inside...ie after 30 mins or son of heater turned up fairly high ( I like warm cars).
Something 'clunks' when you go over a speedbump slowmly, or come to a stop, or start off from a stop etc.

I have had the same problem in the past from other VW group cars, never quite figured it out, but this time it will not get the better of me !

When I find it, I will post the location of the damned noise here !

I have a rattly noise (not exactly a knock) from somewhere near the glovebox (or thats where it sounds like) but it only pokes its head up once I'm going over 80.... Cant really fiddle around with the glovebox when doing over 80...

Is your rattle anything like the description of Kevinjp's rattle in this thread?

If it is that makes two of us, er  I mean three of us until kevin got his fixed...

Yes... it sounds exactly like that !!! Did anyone ever find out exactly where the problem was?? I wouldnt mind getting it sorted soon... but I'd rather be able to tell the garage exactly what needs doing rather than let them loose !!! :D

mliley, here is another http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89949&highlight=rattle
See Cheeseweasle's comments. They all seem to similar to me. I have PM'd Kevinjp some while ago but didn't get a response. I agree with you, I'd rather have a more accurate idea of the fix before letting somebody loose on it. Lets keep in touch on this one :)

Guys,
There is a thread in the 'New Leon' forum ('Annoying dash rattle') which describes the glovebox rattle issue....seems to be a problem with vibration from the crashbar behind the glovebox. Check out that thread for more information.
At least I haven't had that rattle yet...door clunking is my current issue.

Grey, sounds like a good idea. Let me know if you find out anything new... (PM, this thread, whatever..).. I dont do too much motorway or over 80 driving anyway, so its not bothered me recently! I'm going to have to start doing some to try and catch the rattle !!

Sounds like you have exactly the same thing as me. However mine seems to have disappeared now the cold weather is here...even with the heater on.....will have to wait and see if it emerges from hibernation next year!

mliley, my FR is in at Cambereley Seat service and warranty centre on Monday for them to track down the rattle. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Grey... showed its head again yesterday at 90 on the M40... errr.. I mean on my private road.... .... thought it had gone for a bit while cruising at 85 in silence!!! No such luck !!

The clunk / clack sound in the driver's door has been solved by adjusting the striker plate to hold the door a little tighter to the pillar. Seems the door wasnt quite tight enough when closed and could move a tiny bit against the plate when the body flexed. One problem fixed, now for the next one....

The previous fix DID solve the clunking sound from the drivers door for a while, but it has come bqack again over time, now it's as bad as ever. [:@]

My noise disappeared over the winter and has not reappeared yet...as previously mentioned it only started when the car got warm suggesting something to do with expansion.....maybe with the warm weather your door needs further adjustment.....obviously it is still not warm enough here in Wales yet!
