Hello all, I'm the proud new owner of a mk3 ibiza (non cupra I'm afraid ), I've been lurking around here for about a week now, finally decided to join up since I've been on here so much.

Sad to say that I've got yet another question regarding our lovely centre console. I've been searching solid for the last few days and picked up quite a bit of info regarding modding the car (after I get this sorted I'm looking to order one of those chinese HID kits everyone's been recommending)

Anyway, I had an alright sony head unit with cd/aux/usb in my last car, which I want to fit into the ibiza, I've read most of the threads concerning fitting a new head unit but still have a few questions. Sorry if they seem utterly stupid (and repeated) but I haven't found the answer in all my searching), so take it easy on me

I know about the poss places to put the HU, it's the wiring that's got me stumped. I know I have to cut one of the wires at the back of the current unit, juust not sure how to go about it (my technical knowhow is a bit limited). Which of the wires do I have to double out of the two black bundles and the brown one? I know they're for speakers, power and eart [?], but don't know which is which.

Also once I cut them, should I just buy a generic ISO cable and connect them to the old cables using scotchlocks or similar clips (i'd prefer that to soldiering as I'm not too confident)?

I would much rather make use of my sony HU and not leave it to go to waste. I've read on here about xCarLink, fitting a cd changer.... and other ways around using the standard Seat HU, but it's a bit too pricey for me.
I've seen this Aux-In Lead
aux2203.jpg

connects to the cd changer at the back, I was wondering if anyone's tried it to see if it was compatible

As I said, I'm not very technically minded, but I'm more than happy to get stuck in as the standard HU's been getting on my nerves lately, and the sony HU is just sitting at home collecting dust. I've seen all the guides and walkthroughs on here, but I still don't know which of the wires to cut or how to go about clipping them together.

Sorry for rthe hassle guys :(

I've recently sorted my headunit and put it under the steering wheel, definatly makes a huge improvement on the sound quality. If i remember rightly, you need to extend the brown cable to wherever you want it, then the black cable you need to double it up, so the you have one to power the existing dash console then one to power the HU.

Hope that helps mate, gimme a shout if you need anything else

Cheers Jam, finally someone replied. What about the third wire there, I think it's green/yellow, should I double that one or leave it in the standard HU, or stick it in the new HU?

Also how did you double the wires up, soldiering or use one of those clipper things.

I didn't split the power from the headunit. I simply extended the brown iso block, the speakers that is, and then sourced constant power from the fusebox, wired the accessory power and constant power leads from the headunit together and left the rest, apart from the earth which I put under the bonnet catch.
If you need any more advice feel free to pm me. Whereabouts do you live?

When I fitted an amp to my last Ibiza I used the clips instead of soldering. Much easier and quicker! Then wraped some lecy tape round it to make sure it wasn't coming loose.

You will need to cut the ISO cable which is the black cable, in the now I can't remember if it was the top or bottom block. It was the one with the most cables anyway. You will see when your in there.

Power will be the brown cable you have, and the earth will be the yellow/green.

So the power cable will need to be attached to the power source for the standard headunit, which I don't know which one it is but it will be in the same block as your ISO, probably red or brown. Or it could be attached straight to the battery I suppose... Not sure if that will be too much power for it though...

The earth just attach it to something metal, I used the thread on the back covered with the rubber (see in link the treaded insert in the middle).

Here is a diagram of the blocks. The middle one is all your speaker cables, the top one I'm sure is the one with the ISO, but then it could be the bottom one.

Now me not being an expert, some of that may be wrong, but that's how I would go about doing it. Just remember to make sure your fuses are the correct ones, and are not blown (saves alot of cursing and swearing if it doesn't work!)

Thanks for the help guys, it's becoming much clearer. I got some spare wiring from an ISO adaptor for ford cars so I'm just gonna use that .

So at the end of the day, I'm only meant to have 2 iso blocks going into the standard HU right? The power and the earth.

My new HU will have a black power iso (which has been doubled) and the brown (speaker?) one. If that's the case I don't see how I can earth it, as the sony HU only has 2slots to fit iso blocks into. Or am I being dim and the earthing's already included in the black iso block?

I'm gonna get on this tomorrow, was gonna start today but by the time I found the spare wiring in the shed I was dark and I didn't fancy funmbling around in there with low light.

Oh and one more question, all these power iso blocks (the ones going into the HU's), where to they originate from? I mean I know they get their power from the battery, but whereabouts in the car is the other end of the iso block plugged in? Can i access it from under the glove box?
