Hi Guys,

Sorry to go over old ground. I have been through the old posts and found them very helpful but still have a few questions. I have just got a 5th Gen Nano.

1. http://seatepac.gedas.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?p_no=6J0051700B

So this is the recomended seat product but it says i also need 6J0051700C which is the cradle?! Yet that says i need 6J0051700A. So confusing!!!

Have also seen another one which is Dension:

The Dension one looks so much simpler but is it worth spending the extra money?

Any advise from people in the know would be greatly appriciated! ;)

You've probably already seen this but just in case. Here's bits on the BMW cable.

As I have a Classic and a current Nano I'm not too bothered about the cradle part, Just leave the iPod it in a case and plug the cable in. Saves messing about with taking it out the case first to put it in the car.

This summary might be worth adding to the FAQ.

This post is for information only and highlights a tested option but does not provide recommendation.

For those cars with the factory fit combined USB and Aux (CUP) option installed there is an optional cable to provide song/album/playlist iPod control from the head unit and steering controls. The head unit provdes the display and is used to navigate the artist/album/playlist etc whilst the steering control will provide track skip/back and volume. The Seat cable is around the £80 mark. However a BMW cable part number 61120440812 will also provide this functionality at about half this price from BMW dealers or cheaper if you search.

This BMW cable has been tested OK for function in a 2011 version SC car and will charge the following units:

  • iPod Classic 80G
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod Nano 6th gen touch screen model

* All the above have the same 30 pin dock connector.

If you already have the USB and Aux ports then forget about the Dension, it's really only for people who didnt spec the Combined USB/Aux and still want to connect and iPod. From what I've read it's not a great solution either.

BMW cable is the one to go for, unless you really want a dock.

Thanks Poloman,

Do you think the cradle 2 will support the Nano 5th generation too?

Neither of the cradles say they do, however cradle 1 doesn't say it is compatible with the iphone and it was.

I agree with the other that the bmw cable is the better (cheaper) option unless you really want a cradle :)

Really appriciate the help from everyone as i was getting very confused. Think ill go for the cable. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. If anyone is interested in the cradle then option 2 for the gen 5 nano should fit as the measurements of the 4 and 5 are the same ;)

Remember to get a 'genuine' BMW ipod cable as they let you control the ipod through the cd player, the cheaper cables do not.

Genuine ones are around 30 -40 pounds unless you find a deal :)

Just make sure you get the right BMW part number (61120440812) as older cables with a different part number may not charge iPhone/touch or some Nano versions.

I orderd the "factory fitted Ipod cradle" and combined USB/AUX port from the factory when i spec'd my cupra up and when my cradle came it came with 3 or 4 attachments that insert into the cradle depending on which ipod i wanted to use..... they basicly just keep the ipod or nano stable

hope this helps a bit
