Once again I'm stuck lol

I'm just about to fit the front hubs, lower arms, steering rack and ARB from a mk1 TT, all this should be the same as what is standard on the mk1 LCR albeit to different spec (bushes), problem I've got is that my standard setup uses drop links from ARB that bolts on to lower arm but new setup drop links bolt to top of the shocker assembly.

I either need to fit the front strut from a matching vehicle or possibly weld a mounting bracket on to my existing strut to secure the ARB to it, or I was wondering if it is possible to remove the shocker from the strut and refit my existing shocker into an S3 or TT strut? I seem to remember that the struts have some sort of "cap" on them which look like it may unscrew?

My car by the way is a 2004 Leon cupra tdi.

Any advice peeps???

You're right that the strut looks like it's got a cap around the top, but it's NOT removable; it's a sealed, pressurised unit

I'm a bit lost as to why you're fitting the lower arms tbh ...if it's for epic lowz, just make sure you buy LCR coilovers ...if you're sticking with shocks and springs, why not leave/keep the old setup?

A few reasons really, 1, need to change a wheel bearing, 2 need a new steering rack and quite fancied the reduced lock to lock from a TT S3 LCR, 3, the standard lower arms are folded steel and flex lots + could do with new bushes and all in all this set up is better for handling as standard than mine is and I got it all fairly cheap.

Didn't realise they were sealed units, I always thought they were inserts, looks like I'll have to find some old struts and remove the existing ARB mounts and weld them onto mine, as for buying some LCR coillies, I don't want to lower the car at all due to the amount of speed bumps I have to ride everyday and also the fact that my car is a tdi and non of the coily manufacturers take this into account ie extra weight of diesel engine pushing down on springs/dampers designed for a lighter petrol engine.

That's it I've made my mind up I'm going to try and source some struts and remove the mounting bracket from them. Thanks for that tllewl

Should be fine - just try to blat them on in short busts so as not to heat up the oil and gas in the shock too much.

LOL @ wrong name ...I didn't spot the first reply ;)
