Anyone else bored by their cupra?

I am getting along but that should make me like the car more.

Not slagging it, but just not floating my boat like previous cars. Possibly half the problem is that by the time you have used the power in a way that is half interesting you are into license losing territory. On track it may be a different matter but that's really not the point with this car.

Had an RS clio 200 for 3 years and that had what I now believe is just enough power for the road. Handled and braked in a way that the cupra just doesn't match. Probably personal preference as would rather have something that you could throw round a corner, rather than power out of using the diff.

As I say a very capable and competent car but would probably hand it back now if it weren't a lease.

I get where you are coming from, the Leon is a big lump of a car (VAG cars, in fact German cars in general are all far too heavy in comparison with their French counterparts) but they are very comfortable as a result so its a compromise.
It sounds like you've bought the wrong car from the wrong brand...

Thankyou. As I say not slagging the car, it just hasn't lived up to my expectations, which perhaps were misguided. Was an impulse lease during the cheap deal period.

I was thinking exactly the same! I've driven a fiesta ST and they really offer the agility it sounds like the OP is after, there's really nothing else that comes close

I did test drive the fezza but I couldn't have lived with those seats with my large (bones of course) frame!

The reliability of them wasn't great - mine never really gave me major problems but it usually had a small niggle . Don't get that with the Cupra . Trade off I guess - quality over excitement . TBH I can't see me going back to Renault sport anytime soon .

I would have had a meg if there were any near reasonable lease deals available. Drove the new clio at Oulton and was appauled with it compared to the old 200 (wallowy and soft). Again perhaps a little unfair test driving on track!!

Should have bought a twingo

I did 800miles in my cupra 290 to wear the engine in. Then as planned be for I even bought it for it remapped changed the car completely Revo or APR only though. The sound delivery of power the fact you'll actually make you LSD kick in, delivery of power through the rev range. I've always called stock cars safety mode cars.

Transforms a car I believe there's a video on YouTube of a APR or Revo stage 1 cupra 280/290 that races the Audi R8 in a tunnel on rolling start from 40 the cupra destroys it

My apologies it was stage 2 but still 30k car beating a 150k car with 2-3k of mods. Most people are satisfied with stage 1 as it's plenty

Link any way

I like my Cupra but personally I would like some more grunt. I think I'll maybe ascend to an Audi Bi Turbo before the end of the year. I've also managed to get a 48 hour test drive of a Lexus RCZ. It'll be interesting to see how they compare. I do find find the Cupra a bit lacking in pace unless you floor it then it gets a bit frantic and unruly. If only I could afford the running costs of an older C63 AMG!

It's not for me. It puts the engine on edge. I'd be worried if it goes bang! I think anything more than 300bhp in a four pot engine is too highly strung! I'd like something with low down grunt.

I've had mine remapped for 25,000 miles without any issue whatsoever. 370bhp, 370 lb ft.

To give you an idea of how much it transforms the car, I repeatedly smoke my brother in his 640d Gran Coupe which has very similar performance to the 3.0 BiTDI Audi engine. I pull car lengths on him at all speeds - and even on the Autobahn, where his big diesel engine runs out of puff.

Highly strung four pot? The A45 AMG has 381bhp from the factory my friend.

I was gonna mention the AMG 4 pot! Some bit of kit. I suppose I'm stuck in the old days when cars like the EVO etc needed servicing every 4k and reports of massive engine failure all the time! I know the VW TSi engine is rock solid through the years of development but it unfortunately still lacks the low down power that is needed for everyday driving. The thought of a 370bhp Cupra sounds scary though!

Idk...depends what you compare it with. My remapped 280 smokes my friends boxters and caymans. Got to drive my friends cayman s(6 pot) and wasn't impressed at all. No power down low, just wanted to get back into my own. So it all depends lol

Absolutely love my 290 ST. New alloys, splitter, shortshifter, exhaust, new SQ sound system, chip (+20kw at the wheel)...probably soon will install cold air open intake for sound and get a real remap. Just this weekend drove it at 248kmh at 1 mile mark. I still giggles when I see my car at the parking lot. Guys and girls who has sit in it has beel only amazed...even totally not car people. One friend with his Audi S6 V10 said, that he better will not even start his car, after heard mine (right...resonator delete too :D). 1st of july it gets 1 year from delivery.

Im far from bored with mine, its effortless to go silly quick. Mine being the DSG pops and bangs on gear changes so its makes you feel warm inside, when you fly past someone.
