FR Derv is the right choice.. Yellow or red are both great, no-cost options. Everybody takes a double take at a smart yellow motor. The FR & Cupra are gonna be pretty similar looking anyhow, with minor mods you could have yourself a derv cupra!!

Options are personal taste, these would be mine on the diesel FR:

Bluetooth
Winter
Convenience
18" wheels

If you're looking at it purely as a financial argument and not a emotional one then you might as well get a year old 2.0 TDI sport with all the options and have it remapped to 180bhp. That way you can factor in first years deprecation as a saving. And the car will still have 2 years warranty.

I was serious in a way, I place a high value on stepping outside the door and seeing a car I wanted to drive the @rse off and getting excited as a School Boy.

Will you be 'happy' in an FR

Yes I believe I will. :) There's nothing to say once kiddies have gone to school etc. I won't be in Mk3 Cupra ;) As Z says - it's more for wifey than me. I won't be driving it much of the time, and when I am, it will have the family in it so I won't be hooning around corners.

So Scott, which colour is it to be??? :D

Zenith is top of the list after your pics. Any chance of e-mailing me that front shot or sticking it on here? Ta. :) How does it fair keeping it looking clean?

It's a bit of both tbh. It's sort of a half-way house. We can comfortably afford the FR, so it's the next best thing to the Cupra. Modding up a sport wouldn't quite be the same, and then you've got higher insurance costs to consider.

Believe me, I've thought about this whole things for a long time and gone over choices and options again and again. I believe this is the right thing for me right now. :)

Ok after more thought.

Let's say the FR saves me 2K across the 4 years I would probably keep the car.
There are deals around now with 2K off list (with options) for an FR - very little, if anything for the Cupra.
Come sale time, it could be worth not that much less than a Cupra the same age (total assumption - but possibility in 4 years time).
90% of the time my wife will be driving the car with 1-2 babies in the back and wouldn't push the FR to its limits, let alone a Cupra.
I'll have the FR paid off by August 07, but the Cupra Feb 08 (if I'm lucky).

It's a bit of a no brainer really........

Scott, you have been here once before on a thread you started and then closed!!!!! That time though you swung back round in favour of the Cupra if I am not mistaken??!! But with a bank managers suit on the FR is probably the right choice......

The day I changed my order for a Focus ST to a used Mondeo ST TDCi I felt a whole load better. I had been worrying about the insurance/petrol costs and thinking "do I really need it?" for ages and having sold the LCR a few months previous I had got used to having the extra cash.

Done the deed. :)

FR TDI ordered with lots of kit.
Xenons, 18" wheels, Comfort pack, bluetooth, load liner, mats, in.........

Black :headhurt: :D

I wasn't going for another black car again, I was silver for the last 6 months up until Zenith thanks to your pics Greytop. :) But they had a black FR in the showroom. It just looked the business and had to be done.

Lots of car cleaning and rain spots to deal with again

The 12 week wait has begun...... :funk:

Thanks for the help guys.

Good luck, Scott. ;)

LOL. Ta ;)

blimey, with all that kit it must have been near the cost of a cupra...

Ahh, but a cupra without the kit I would have wanted anyway. ;)

I'm sure you'll love it, we were tempted by black too :D

TBH I was equal over both. Just after having placed the order I saw a zenith leon in our supermarket car park. I like them both equal really. But this will be my third black car in a row. Better the devil you know I suppose. ;)
