Hi all, got this weird noise between 3500/4000 rpm, ie when the boost kicks in on my car. Best described as ffttt ttt ttt tt ttt ttt t a bit like an old VW Beetle exhaust! Goes once thru this rev band and doesn't seem to affect the power delivery, dyno graph shows no glitches there either, nor vag-com. It's always been there despite 3 different maps, had the revo boost turned up last week and it may be me but I think it's more noticeable now, possibly boost related? Spoke to a guy at Audi, he says it may be wastegate flutter...... Looked on t'internet and seems very common, didn't find any threads on Cupras, not very common car, that's why I bought one! Any thoughts?

nothing to do with this post but ... what have you done to your airbox to modify it ? :)

Basically opened up the box where the air intake joins the front panel, its very restrictive and also is open to the engine bay at the rear , drawing in very hot air. I made up a plate to block this off so the only air comes from the front grille, i'll try and find the original thread for you!

It's not wastegate flutter;

it's the N249 stabilizing the charge pressure as it sits at 1.5-1.6bar :)

Yes, I have the EVOM's kit. It is loud and the induction roar does sound a little like Darth Vader under the bonnet, but I love it[B)]

The best thing is the missis likes it too:D

no it's fine you don't need to do anything! the MK2 and the MK1 are completely different cars! and the boost control system works in a different way, the N249 is fine where it is :)

Interesting.. your putting out some good figures so no problem from heat soak that people keep talking about then

Misses liking it is always a bonus!

I have the Forge Twintercooler which helps. I've also just bought the THS intercooler, so that pretty well maxes out anything I can do to combat heat soak until the W/M kit goes on[B)]

When scanning my car, shows up a N249 intermitent mechanical error, what is exactly the N249? is this the diverter valve? or some other thing? thank you mates.

N249 is a solenoid that controls the diverter valve, the Mk1 boys remove them as they're troublesome but I haven't heard of a Mk2 giving problems... It could be the DV itself giving problems and throwing up a code for the N249, check the diaphragm on the DV hasn't split, common on earlier Mk2s, solved by fitting a Forge or OEM piston type replacement

would uprating your waste gate to the new forge one with stiffer springs solve any wate gate issues
