Hello folks.

I got my 3" turbo back fitted yesterday from exhaust uk.

I went for the de-cat option with silenced/resonated mid pipe

I also had the down pipe heat wrapped for good measure.

Well first impressions are it's a bit louder than I thought, dot get me wrong I've had 3" turbo backs before so kinda new what to expect...... However it's just to boomy for my liking.

I wanted something pretty tame low down (as close to stock as poss) which wakens up and sounds awesome on boost.

I had the downpipe heat wrapped and a resonated mid pipe as I thought that should keep the noise levels down a touch.

It sounds nice on boost...... It's just to BOOMY for my liking low down, I've been back to see them today to see what my options are to reduce the boomy noise low down.

Apart from sticking a reducer on before the backbox, the only other option which I'm leaning towards is sticking the oem backbox back on

I'll have the 3" down pipe, the 3" mid pipe will have to taper down to 2.5" to join onto the oem backbox. (Assuming they can do this)

Will this restrict me much??

Also any of you guys on here running stage 2 power with oem back box?

I'm booked in at statller for Revo stage 2 software on the 6th of June so need to sort my zaust out to my tastes.

Any info/help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I have a 3" downpipe and sports cat with the standard cat back and stage 2. Downpipe sports cat/decat is all that is required for stage 2.

If you wanted something tame low down and loud on boost you should of went for the BCS powervalve. It sounds very oem off boost then loud on boost when the valve opens.

Had a quick butchers at mine on my ramp at work, didnt know the std back box was made by Remus!

Kev's cupra..... Thanks for the reply mate, my mate used to have a 57 plate S3 with a milltek 3" turbo back (with sports cat & resonated)... I don't remember that being to loud at all... That's why I decided to go for a 3" turbo back.

The BCS exhausts look awesome mate quality wise, the power valve is probably ideal for me lol, I've just spent £795 to have this one put on as well.

Looks like I'll be cleaning the oem backbox up tomoz morning ready for it to go back on lol.

I was just worried it'd be restrictive..... But like you say if all that's required for stage 2 is downpipe, looks like it'll be ok.

I no mate you did

I'd been booked in at exhaust uk 2 weeks previous and left a £100 deposit so didn't wanna loose that.

Plus exhaust uk are literally on my doorstep.

Glad your enjoying yours though.

Lol I know mate but there's no use going somewhere that's on your doorstep and having a booming exhaust

I travelled 3 hours there and 3 hours back on 2 occasions to get the downpipe fitted and then the cat back fitted

Well worth it :D

complete noob question here! where do you guys find yor upgraded exhausts etc? i've got a 2010 LCR, i went to see about getting it mapped and was told i should upgrade the downpipe first but i dont have a clue where i could pick 1 up? i also want my exhaust to kind of like pop on upshifts and gurge when i lift of the accelerator. not much to ask for ehh? cheers in advance if anyone can be bothered replying to my nonsense :p!

Well folks, next Monday I will be taking the 3" Cat Back exhaust off and sticking the oem one back on

To loud for me when coupled with the 3" de-cat down pipe

I'll be running a 3" De-cat down pipe with the Oem cat back (will have to get oem mid section modified to fit onto 3" downpipe)

Still good enough for stage 2 and stage 2+ if needs be

I've just paid £800 out for the 3" turbo back and I'm only keeping the downpipe

I'll be putting it up for sale on here and ebay sometime next week.

Check for BCS exhausts on Facebook mate

U don't need a downpipe to have it remapped

Remap is stage 1 and requires no hardware changes

Stage 2 requires downpipe and stage 2+ requires downpipe and uprated fuel pump

What does the build quality look like? I'm considering something like this as well as removing the middle back box and leaving the Remus on - cheap alternative to full stainless, plus can go stage 2.

bought the same pipe a few months back. tig welds are very good. steel good quality. i presume they are all done in china for that money (i actually got mine from the states). but dont let it put you off. it keeps its colour and hasnt cracked. im running the ebay downpipe, s3 ic, mtc incudtion and turbo at 1.7 bar. at idle its a tiny bit throatier than standard (although i may have got used to it) but as soon as it gets any throttle it wakes up. coupled with induction, full throttle and lift on are jet fighter sound territory. thoroughly enjoyable. only the checked shirt brigade find it offensive, everyone else genuinely enjoys it as its a bit different but not corsa 1.3 42 inch box box sounding, plus it suits the car.
not saying the scene pipes are better or worse, just often you pay a scene tax and sometimes you're buying the same pipe but with a different label on and twice or three times the price. its just business and they are going to defend themselves, but pays to sometimes sit back and take the cheaper options. not always but in this case its a good pipe and thats all that matters.

With regards to the bcs exhaust im expecting mine to be ready this week. Is it a case of pull the old off n refit tbe bcs. Or is there some other connections needed for this powervalve?
