Iv been reading all the topics that people have posted. But has anyone actually managed to sound deaden the car so that there's hardly any road noise?

I just would like to know where the main area of noise is being created. Is it the:
Floor
Boot
door cards

Cheers.

You need to sound proof just about every pannel. For average results. Its not made for it to be honest, you would have more luck making it a people carrier.

I've done the boot floor, under rear seats, under the carpet and front seats, front footwells, rear quarters and front doors. It's an improvement but as said it's never going to be a Jag. Still plenty of noise on the wrong surface, and when you're on a quiet surface you just hear the wind noise instead lol.

There's no road noise if you turn your stereo up loud enough :D

the stereo is up pretty loud but it still ruins the sound quality..think i bought the wrong car for doing long motorway journeys

i think its literally just whats been produced by the tyres and then vibrating through the suspension if i could soften that some how it would be good..

This is probably your answer to everything haha.

well just road noise to be honest...

i get excellent economy out of it...58mpg average and the computers dead on. So if i can combat road noise id be happy with it.

plus i love how upgradable it is. as far as suspension and been able to change things easily but keeping it looking standard e.g. speakers.

Cheers Great_Kahn ill have a look at them. I have Toyo Proxis T1Rs at the moment not sure if there a loud tyre or not.

looking at the reviews these Kumho KU39s seem like a decent tyre for reducing road noise at a budget also. £120 worth spending maybe

I had T1r's. Have there plus points, but you will notice big difference in roar from them to the V12's.

well just been pricing up the Kumho 39's and i can get 4 tyres with a slightly bigger profile 215/40/17 a posed to the 205/40/17 for £325 from black circles

Assuming that been that slightly bigger will help a bit more with road noise and actually fill out the alloy a bit more as well instead of them looking slightly stretched.

Im guessing they wont rub though will they on full lock running on the standard springs?

the v12's are a bit pricey sadly looking at over £400 for 4 tyres.

£75 p/c + £10 delivery + £25 for fitting, works out at around £340 ;)

Would you not need like 205/45 or bigger to drown out road noise? If the profile of the tyre is the same (40) but the tyre is fatter (215) the surely thats just more rubber on the road to male more noise?

Thicker tyres would create less noise and would be more comfortable to drive with.

That's what your effectively doing by increasing the width. As the 40 part is 40% of that size tyre showing on the sidewall. So if your tyres wider your actually increasing the sidewall size also, as 40% of 215 is larger then 40% of 205.

Plus stops you altering the over all diameter too much. I think it adds an extra inch on the diameter so half inch on the radius. Meaning speedo/acceleration will be fine still.

When I looked at 205/45/17 it made the diameter quite a bit larger.

I think the standard profile looks slightly stretched anyway. This should allow the alloy to look a bit fuller.

Thanks for the price guide on them tyres too the v12s
