Think it's the motor in the throttle body, could be a wiring/connection fault between the throttle body and the ECU so I would check the wiring & connections first.

Look in www.vagcat.com in the engine section about 2/3 of the way down for 'Intake system/Throttle valve control unit', look for your engine code and it will give you an exploded diagram.
 
right ok took it to my mates dads garage and he cleaned out the throttle body and put some kinda spray on it all. Idle is now mint :D

however the sensor inside the throttle body is dead as a door nail.. he said it will be fine without it and a new throttle body costs around £200 :(
