Which is best and can someone confirm if you need to remove the centre console to fit the Seat one? Its not that clear from the guides i have found.

You need to cut out the coin tray at the back for the arm rest to fit to the floor and yes you will need to remove the centre console. (The one that runs between the seats, not the one with the radio in it) Sorry no idea what a Armster is so cant comment on which is best.

is the centre console easy to remove? does it just require removal of the gearstick gaitor and the screws down each side?

More or less, its easier to remover the ash tray (one screw) there are two screws under the rear ash tray and the ones down either side and yes remove the gear knob and gator, the worst bit is getting the obd port out. If i have missed anything i am sure someone will point it out LOL.

the guide i have found seems to suggest the console doesnt come completely out - just enough to lever the rear part up a few inches?

I agree that it doesnt have to be removed completely for it, just undo the 2 t20 bolts under the ash tray, and the 2 by the front seats.

The trim has to be cut to allow the base of the arm rest to stick through.

See My build thread for arm rest, it has cup holders inside.
