Evening,

I know it's not car related but just seeing if anyone has any recommendations for a low-mid range audio system mainly for playing music in my man room (currently optical in from my iMac.

Budget is around the £150 but could stretch to £200 ish, I've currently got some 5 year old £50 2.1 unit (wired), fan of a bit of bass but as my main music taste is heavy metal its probably more good quality over feeling my insides moving lol

Ideally looking for speakers over a soundbar as there isn't much space under a mac for it.

Any thoughts welcome

Cheers

Have a look on eBay. Filter search between £200-300 and there’s loads of reasonable speakers for sale.
They may be a bit older but will still sound great. Bowers Wilkins. Monitor Audio, Q Acoustics. Wharfdale, Dali to name a few.
Not sure how you’d plug em into a Mac though if I’m honest lol

Yeah I did think about going 2nd hand from the bay, it has its pros and cons I guess, I may give it a look see. I see much research being done over the weekend haha

I've got aux 3.5mm and optical out for the mac but I assume I could get Bluetooth etc working as well if its fancy pancy

Cheers

Bowers Wilkins used to do some pukka pc speakers but can’t recall what they were at the moment.
Guessing most of the speakers I suggested would require a decent amplifier to drive them so maybe it wasn’t such a good suggestion after all lol.
I’ll ask a mate who knows about this stuff

Yep.
Mac to amp to speakers
Might knacker your budget though

Yeah unfortunately it's proper overkill to get an amp and then speakers, I don't play music that loud and space is limited as I'm in the classic box room that supposedly counts as a bedroom lol

I'll do some more digging and see what I can find. Thanks for your help
