Back after a trip to the Japside..... Mk4 Golf V5 20valve

Well guys....... i'm back :)

After selling my Bora TDI Highline due to not needing a diesel, i went a bit off the rails and bought a Subaru Impreza Sport and then swapped that for a Subaru Forester Turbo

But after a discussion with the fiancee..... we came to the conclusion that because my wee girl is never in my car and she has a 5 door Astra that i could get myself something a bit more fun to drive and not necessarily a 5 door :)

So i got rid of the Forester Turbo.... made a tidy wee profit :) ...... and bought this

2.3 20 valve V5 :)

Has 66k on the clocks, FSH, Leather interior, Winter packs and a massive folder of receipts (even the original puchase invoice at 19k )
The car has no rust on it what so ever :) even the front wings are like new, unheard of on the mk4 problem as they suffer badly from corrosion. that might be something to do with the 496quid receipt from a coachworks where both wings were replaced and painted.

plans for now........ get an exhaust and enjoy the noise from the 5 pot :D possibly another few bits n pieces over time.

Cheers peeps

Started ordering a few bits :)

Ordered a Hoffman Exhaust Race Tube, Green cotton panel filter, new strut top mounts and a new latch and spring for the centre console armrest.

Hoping the race tube arrives soon.... can't wait to get it fitted in place of the stock centre section and hear the difference.

And got a nice wee refund from Scottish Power when I switched energy supplier so think i'm gonna order up a spring / shock setup, probably something around a drop of 40-50mm will do nicely :)

I will do, don't imagine there will be much difference on idle but when given the beans I imagine she will have a decent growl :)

She already sounds pretty good with the stock system but at £38 off eBay I thought the race tube was a bargain.

Well the race section arrived on Monday and got it fitted the following day :)

All I can say is.... oaft!!!!

Hardly noticable on tickover or when driven conservatively but when given the beans all I can say is wow!!!!
The noise is mental, a real rasp to it.

When I dropped the ramp after fitting I fired her up and gave the loud pedal a blip...... It sounded like a muscle car lol.

Need to wait on my internet getting connected at my new flat to upload a vid as the file is too long to upload via the mobile photobucket site :(

My dad had one of these a few years ago. They make a great noise as standard!

His was black and 5 door though. I prefer the red!

Small update.

Another item has been purchased and added to the collection for fitting....... whiteline front arb with adjustable droplinks. Bought it 2nd hand off Scottishvag and collected on Saturday afternoon, just need to find myself a rear arb, powerflex dogbone bush and finally decide which spring / shock setup i'm gonna go for, then get all the above plus new top mounts fitted.

BT will be connecting my phone line today :) so i will finally be back online :D and get a couple of updated pics fired up along with hopefully a vid of how she sounds with the race tube fitted.

only two pics I have managed to get uploaded to photobucket before my laptop started playing up..... were taken after I gave her a wee clean up and a quick polish when we had the good weather the other week.

hopefully once I've done a system restore on the laptop I can try and upload the two video clips of before and after fitting of the Hoffman race tube :)

instead I'm having to use the damn iPad! why could it not have a USB port :( lol

The 5 cylinders sound awesome with the centre box removed :D one of the best things I have done. DEo you get the pops and bangs when you give it some boot?

You can get a camera kit that plugs into the bottom with a USB port on it

i think i'll need to be having one of these.

It is easily the best mod i've done too :) and yes....... lots of pops n bangs :)

Small update......

Its gonna be an expensive few months now...... MOT due beginning of July, Insurance due the end of July and road tax due the end of August

Also got a couple of other items on the "to do" list...... fit a set of Prism4 LED sidelight bulbs and change the dud coolant temp sensor for a new one.

After the MOT, insurance and Tax I should hopefully have the funds to finally get the car lowered.

Have decided i want these:

http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/fk-...kitbr-golf-4-19tdi-23-v5-fwd-0199-p-8941.html

Pretty good price IMO considering the have 6 adjustable damping settings too, decided that for not much extra cash i could get a good set of coilovers instead of being stuck with a fixed drop on a spring / shock setup.

When I finally dith the Joms I'll be getting a set of those FKs. Let us know how you get on with them :)

take it you have had enough of the Joms???

i had a set of them fitted to my last mk4 and they did exactly what i wanted them to do............. slam it.

ride quality wasn't great though, quite crashy, but for 165quid delivered to my door i couldn't really complain. they still had a better ride than than the Jamex coilovers i had fitted to my mk3 vr6 and they cost me 300quid.

will let you know how they are if and when i get them, hoping its gonna be towards the end of August once i've taxed the car again.

Short but sweet update.

- LED side lights fitted
- MOT'd for another year....... absolutely nothing needed for it :D
- Got my insurance renewed for 560quid (25 yrs old, driving for 7yrs, 4yrs NCB protected, sp30 with 5pts)

That is all :)

Two updates coming up here since its been so long (copy n pasted from uk-mkivs.net)

Some little failed abortion has taken it upon themselves to remove the arial from my car :censored:

so it was onto ebay to look for the stubby s2000 one to replace it.... picked on up for £7 :)............. but then i made the mistake of looking at other items that i could purchase............. and ended up ordering up the following as well:

green cotton panel filter

bosch front aero wipers

mk5 rear wiper arm & blade

and finally a couple of novelty "VR5 inside" stickers lol.

Typically....... i never ordered the items i REALLY need....... like a new coolant temp sensor, new spark plugs and a service kit minus the air filter  and i was extremely close to buying a set of fk coilovers whilst drunk last weekend

finally got a vid to upload........ just a little one of how the V5 sounds with a Hoffman race tube fitted in place of the stock section

off to an RR day at Extreme Motorsport in Whitburn, West Lothian tomorrow morning [:D]

hoping for anything around the stock power of 167bhp...... even with the straight through centre section and the green cotton panel filter.

anything extra is a bonus in my eyes
