I finally got a chance to take an new CR FR with DSG fitted. It was a very impressive bit of kit etc etc.....................

excellent bit of info on the latest Cr FR which im now waiting for after placing an order.
its helped me to feel comfortable ordering the car that ive never driven.
one thing to condsider is this, when having a spirited drive i generally keep my hands at quarter to three (in my A6 avant with tiptronic buttons on the wheel)....and in general your hands can stay there for almost every corner your likely to contend with. so for me id be happy with not crossing hands and losing the paaddles position...
if im in town and taking junctions etc where id be crossing hands much more regularly id probably be in lazy auto mode as i do with the audi i have now....tiptronic or in this case DSG paddles will be used for spirited drives and flying thro the millions of roundabouts we seem to contend with these days.

i remember driving croft once in my DC5 integra and the instructor reminded me that the hairpain before the start finish straight is one of the tightest bends on a UK track where you need cross hands and deviate away from the quarter to three, but thats very rare.

for me the pro's of quarter to three posistion with ability to change gear while having a spirited run far outweigh the con's....of which i cant see any....but my tiptronic has made me never want manual again :)

spot on to a large degree,,

The only thing i put in that review that i had doubts over was the legitimacy of saying that my hands scrambling for the paddles was any real issue. I only knew that there was a couple of times it peed me off but i'm sure with practice mentioning it could become null & void. Even if the paddles had been made a bit bigger and made of metal instead (lol!) i may have been more impressed. I was just left feeling a little bit cold after driving with dsg as if i'm weighing up why i still prefer analogue vinyl to digital music flatness with less feeling or depth. I think i prefer changing gears manualy was how I was left feeling after it & I truly was expecting to be converted. But there ye go! I can still see how some people would love it anyhoo..

its good to weigh up your thoughts publicly.

im still loving it, the tiptronic that is. and im sure the dsg will just be far better than the tiptronic i already know.

it's the best comparison i could think of! glad you liked that one...

I might even end up going with dsg but that was the first impressions straight after using it anyway & it did sort of confirm my suspisions about how i might find it.

I'm sure you'll love it to bits & if I end up with or without it I'm at least aware of both systems benefits now so should also be happy with either!

cheers & no doubt we'll hear how you get on in 10 weeks or whenever it is :)

i just get thro all that stuff on the link....
whoa! it gets some slating on there.

ive lived with a tiptronic audi for a couple of years and i love it. for the record ive had a whole rake of jap cars, including various Type R honda's on track too, and also owned a westfield for a while.
manual is great for being in total control but personally i believe tiptronic (with steering wheel buttons) and now the dsg i have on order are the best for a daily driver type of car.

im not trying to start a long debate but if you consider just how often you can actually give it some beans on the public roads compared to how often your driving is constrained by the road users and conditions then some type of auto is just perfect....for me anyway.

you only need to be stuck in traffic even just once and you'll realise how good an auto is.

it is marmite but people have to live with it a while and learn to love it for what it is and appreciate an auto box's good points.

im more than happy to know ive got the next 3 years in a dsg. i get everything i want. lazy auto style with no input needed from me when im going to work at 6.30am and if i want a wee burn then i flip to flappy paddle mode.

they are great for daily drivers in my opinon.

There is some rubbish in that avforums topic about DSG with regards to red line and two-three second delays. That topic will influence someone's opinion, and it's just garbage!
