Philips Diamond Vision are really good, ive had these on mine for about two months and love them, closest to HID you will get from a std bulb..... but they are expensive unfortunalty

How much better are the H7 Osram Night Breaker Plus than standard lights do you reckon? I have been quite disapointed by the lights in my car since I bought it recently.

How much difference would HIDs make? Money is tight at the moment so need to only spend money if its really worth it.

Are these the Philips ones for the car? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-BlueVision-Upgrade-Headlight-Headlamp/dp/B00344WLBU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1301925003&sr=8-2

Also how many do you need? I can see 3 bulbs in each headlight, do you need to replace them all? So 6 bulbs?

Cheers

You wont go wrong with those mate, heard somegood things about them, think it was autoexpress who did some independant tests on them and they where highly rated; quite a few people on here recommend them too.

Hope this helps

i had the Osram's much better than the standards, i just didnt like the orange glow.

I went for 5.3k HIDs in the end which are as close to white as your going to get... and then i ended up trading them for some 6k ones and a few goodies... lol

the 5.3k where very OEM tbh, the 6k are a bit blue as you can imagine, but their fantastic night driving.

i never get flashed for blinding, and i even follow the police at night and have never been pulled for them :)

+1 for the Osram night breaker plus

i have them in dipped beam, high beam, Front foglights.

the best light i have had on my car. and the new "plus" bulbs have longer life then the old non-"plus" bulbs

off-topic, now you are changing bulbs, you could also upgrade the other bulb.:
VW Lupo 3L front bulbs (you cant see the orange on the glass, and they are like original equipment as they ar from a vw, i also have them on my car)
VW Touareg front position bulbs (from a tourag with xenon, they light up more white then normal bulbs and they are like original equipment as they ar from a vw, i also have them on my car)

How many bulbs do you need to buy to replace the front headlights? 6?

Sides - 1 each lamp
dipped - 1 each lamp
main - 1 each lamp

So yeah, 6... but if your going with osrams and not pushing for "white" light, i wouldnt bother replacing the sidelights.

Thanks

What do the side lights do? Are they the ones that you have on when its gloomy but not dark?

Yeah, basically offer nothing but the face the lights are on. its the first "click" of the light switch.

it turns the sides on, and the rear lights.

Night breakers are pretty good mate, you only need 6 bulbs if you wanna change dipped, main and sidelights, but 9/10 you only change the dipped beam bulb...the bulb you use normally at night

oh, why would i only need to change the dipped beams? wouldnt that make it look really weird at night?

How often do you use full/main beam???!!! Sidelights at night you dont even see... its the dipped beam you use, and what ul and other will see

well all the roads by me are country roads with no lights around. so currently i use full beams quite a lot to be honest- but that is mainly down to the fact that the dipped lights arent very bright i guess

Ahh ok, yeh, go for both dipped and main beam bulbs then :D , and value for money they are quality, when/if you do them, where latex gloves cuz if you touch the glass, the grease off your skin will stick to the glass and when lights are on, it will create a hotspot, and bulb will fail, or, dont touch the bulbs!!!!

lol i just read through a thread about changing them and nobody suggested that, so thanks for the advice! would you be fine with just washing up gloves on then or would it be safer still to use a pair of tweezers?

yeh washing up gloves that are new are perfect, i didnt mention them as they are pretty big!!! if u aint allergic to latex, they are 99p for a box of 10 from tesco/asda etc....tweezers????
