Hi guys

Would you all recommend the tesco 99 petrol for my car or do you have other recommendations?

Makes no real diference until it's mapped from what I can see on mine,

I run mine on BP fuel because it's more local to me and I find it's adequate, I've put V-Power in it and find it gives me s**t mpg so I don't bother, I don't notice much difference between Tesco 99 and the base BP fuel so I'll use whatever I can get hold of

When car's are mapped I believe it's more important to use higher octane fuel on standard I can't say I've noticed much difference :)

Did any of you see that report that 5th gear did a while ago on fuel? some high ron fuels did no bhp gains and some lost bhp.

I use bog standard 95ron as I'm a cheapo and it runs just fine. Fuel cap says to use 98Ron

Oldest argument in the book (apart from should I use a cone filter maybe). thre are literally hundreds of threads on this, opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. Comes down to the individual car and mods, and driving style IMO. General consensus is that unless it has been mapped specifically to run on 95 (unusual, would need to be a custom map) then you are better running 98, running 95 will reduce the power output due to timing retardation, what's the point in paying for a remap just to loose power again scrimping on fuel?. The remap makes this affect more pronounced as remapping advances the timing.

If your car is standard then there's not a lot of difference, I find that I get slightly better MPG with 98 but mainly use it for its cleaning and additive benefits than for financial / power reasons.

I noticed no difference at all on my LCR when I tried tesco 99 Ron. Would probably make more different after a remap.

I always run shell v-power as mines modified :). I havent tried the tesco 99 but i would like to here a opinion between v-power and tesco 99? On a modified car though.

The only difference I've ever felt in power on my revo stage 2 is when I use the 102 at the Aral stations when I go to the nurburgring. Apart from that Vpower seems to make it run nice n smooth.

Best argument in thread :)

As I under stand it 98 Ron takes more squishing before it goes bang, it's all science but basically 95 Ron explodes earlier than 98 Ron, so the downside to it exploding in the cylinder earlier is DET and we don't want that, while 95 is perfectly fine to run the car on you get a cleaner better bang for ya buck with 98 Ron and that means cleaner engine better emitions more mpg
