Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post, I have bin doing a fair bit of research on upgrading rear brakes to the 256mm vented rears as seen on the golf audi Leon etc. I'm just after a bit more information as I've have seen a kit on eBay full front and rear set up off a golf mk5 gti wanting to know if this will fit. the rears stated are 282mm and 312mm fronts. Kit includes caliper carriers discs pads etc. My only thought is the rear want go behind the standard 17inch alloys but then I think if will 312 go behind front they should. Can anyone give me any more information thanks ben

It will probably fit with some care..
The stock Cupra AP brakes have standard rear discs and they do very little.. in fact I was always replacing the rear discs every MOT because of corrosion until I removed about 40% of the friction material of the pad to increase the force and cleaning of the disc.
It may not go right .. you should check the pressure reducing/controlling valve they use on the lesser cars.. as you put bigger brakes on the rear it is more likely to lock up the rear tyres and that is something you should never do (the car spins as nothing is keeping it pointing in the right direction). However I suspect the Cupra uses standard control valve and they just ignore the poor brake setup (the Cupra/AP installation is not well done).

Some cars have EBD? (electronic brake distribution) where the ABS valves to the job of the pressure reducing valve. Again there will be pre-set amounts of rear braking and you may get funny results (locking rear wheels) but it may have enough tolerances to accept and use the brakes. Ultimately it is a try it and see.. just ensure you do a full emergency stop or 2 with different loads in the car to check that the rears do not lock/car becomes unstable/spins.

Thanks very much for your response, do you know if they have the locking issue when they use the 256 rear conversion, that most use. All it is looking to start doing larger engine mods later in year start of next year but I believe in upgrading my stopping power first. I just felt upgrading both front and rear would still pull up same just Faster. I will have do more research into the pressure sensing valve etc. I am having the disc issue corrosion all time discs knackered and pads hardly worn another reason for change.
