biggest front disks??

wots the biggest front disks i can put on my 1.4? and which are the best pads 2 go with?...

depends on the size of your wheels

without changing you hubs, the biggest you can go to is the ones you've got - 239mm (solid or vented depending on your callipers).

to go any larger you will need to change you hubs......

then your 'easy' options are:

256mm from a 2.0 8v Mk2
280mm from a 2.0 16v Mk2 or 1.8 20vT Mk3
305mm from a 1.8 20vT Mk3 Ibiza Cupra R (Brembo 4-pots)

ive got 17" wheels and so i couldnt get come 256mm or something like that?

you could, but as I said, you would need to change you hubs first

the 1.4 hubs have got the calliper carrier cast as part of the hub, so you can't unbolt it and fit larger ones

Just try and find yourself a Mk2 Ibiza/Cordoba that's being 'broken' and ask for the front hubs and brakes.....

Yeah

Ibiza Gti/Cupra Sport 8v or 16v
Cordoba SX either the 1.6 (256mm) or the 2.0 (280mm)

or a Mk3 Ibiza Cupra 1.8 20vT

Just don't mention you want a Corrado/Golf G60 set-up, as the price will double, despite them being the exact same set-up

Are the calipers on 280's the same as 256's? Would i just need a different caliper carrier to go from the 256 to the 280's? Will 280's fit under 14" wheels as well?

280s wont go under 14". and the callipers are different for 256 (8v gti) and 280mm (16v)

passats/golfs/ibizas/cordoba blah blah blah all share the same front hub/brake set up. just watch out you dont end up getting 5 stud hubs.

Ok cheers so to go from 256 to 280's you need 15" wheels and the calipers from a 16v. Is there anything else i'd need?

Fitted 280's from a 16v to my old 8v'er, and just replaced the callipers/carriers/discs

am i right in thinking that since the 16v's come with 16" ronals standard the 280mm's wont fit under 15s? as im needing new disks and pads as mine are warped , but i quite fancy having bigger brakes to suit my engine mods im planning?

280s will fit under 15's in most cases. mine do

thats fine then , just got new wheels so id be gutted if i could fit them under the wheels
