Right earlier on i had a bird do a do do on my car and i decided to wipe it off as i thought it was still wet with a paper tissue, unfortunately it wasn't and ended up scratching the paintwork. Basically it hasn't gone through the paint and i can still see black behind the scratch. Its very small but there r other ones circled around it from the circular motion i used.

1. What should i use in future to remove bird dodo and what should i wipe it off with to prevent this happening?

2. What can i do to improve the sight of the scratch

3. Is auto glym bodywork shampoo enough to prevent this in the future as i haven't done anything but use this so far :)

I. use warm water out a jug (not boiling water) to soften it then pour more water to rinse the rest off
2. you could try some scratch-X by using a foam pad
3. no shampoo will prevent this , but having a good coat of sealant or wax on the paintwork will help abit and make it easier to remove ,when using the warm water (see question 1)

Thanks for the quick replies. I had a look and gave it a sponge off just now. Rubbed my finger over it and it hasn't gone into the paintwork at all. Its only surface so could a polish machine do the job? If so how much or is there another easy way like an auto glym wipe on jobby?

Also i have a patch on my roof that is whitish only just noticed it, like a birth mark sort of thing. What could i use to turn this into the car colour. I presume it was a fault with the spraying of the car as i haven't done anything to cause a paint issue like that.

i would not use a sponge to wash any car , as their can hold dirt ,which can marks and scratches on the paint work , get yourself a lambwool wash mitt to wash your car.

the other mark you are talking about could be bird crap that started to burn through the paint clear coat, if this is the case you might need a pro to wet sand the paint and machine polishes the roof .

hope this helps

I have only washed the car twice and there hasn't been any doo doo on the roof so i expect it must have been done pre delivery. No real way of proving that now though :(.

Thanks for the tips. How long can the roof mark be left before it needs doing. I.e. can i live with it or does it need attention asap?

I am going to buy some scratch x and use that for the scratches on the side fingers crossed it will work :). Can that be used on the top too?

Is using a suction cup worth while for door dings?

In my experience the only way of removing, and then not always completely is to wet sand and polish. My old R32 had many layers of wax and the bomb had only been on for minutes at the most but it still burnt the paint and never completely went. I always carry some QD and a couple of m/f's in the boot just in case.
I doubt you will get anywhere with the scratch x but it might be worth a go. If you can live with it it should be OK for quite a while. You may in a good few years get some clearcoat failure but that would take a while to occur I imagine.
I find sealant type products more durable than waxes when protecting from the birds, at the moment I am really liking the Zaino and am complete convert to this stuff. Seems to last very well, provides long lasting protection and looks amazing.

as i said before mate, dont use sponges, they hold dirt next to the paint work and then cause small scratches in the laqure giving a 'spider web' effect on the surface.

you need 2 lamb wool mits, one for the top half of the car and one for the lower half. one important thing when washing your car is YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH WATER when washing your car, always rinse the mitt off in th 2nd bucket of water and then return to the first bucket for clean water and soap.

also DONT USE FAIRY LIQUID as this fecks up your top coat.

you want lots and lots of microfibre cloths and foam pad applicators to apply wax / polish and sealants.

i will getyou to come around mine in a few weeks and i will show you how to clean a car. im nt the best at it but you saw what my car lookslike when its done ;)
