I know this is nothing special for derv FR owners... but the other day I finally got just over 400 miles from a single tank with my pre-FL FR TFSI. I maybe could have gotten another few miles but didn't want to risk it.

Anyway, here's a bad camera phone pic, as seems to be traditional on such occasions:

For what it's worth, my (40 mile-ish) daily commute is a mix of country twisties, fast dual carriageway and a few miles of stop-start for the last bit. I always use V-Power after experimenting with Tesco 99 for a while and finding that it didn't feel as smooth as V-Power.

This tank full did include a trip to Sheffield, meaning quite a bit of 'average speed 50mph' roadworks on the motorway... maybe that's cheating? ;)

The TFSI engine never fails to amaze.
Is your car chipped? any modifications?

The average speed sections do help a lot :)
I've got a derv and just before I hit a 50mph section I was showing 365 miles to empty, at the end of the 50mph section, i was averaging 48.6mpg and it had jumped upto 440 miles haha, so call it cheating, I call it a helping hand haha :)

Danny.

I am taking this as a challenge for something to beat ;)

Next week I will be headed to Sheffield also, but mine is a Cupra......

Not chipped it as I find the standard level of oomph to be plenty for my needs, tbh; it's the first sporty car that I've owned. I would consider chipping it if it improved consumption by a fair amount (not worth the extra insurance and potential warranty issues otherwise, imho)... but from what I've read it's only really the TDIs that see an improvement in consumption with a remap?

Anyway, my only mods are:

- Eibach Pro kit springs and Koni FSD dampers
- 16" steel wheels with winter tyres
- H7R HIDs and LED sidelights

I've no idea if the modded suspension would make any difference to consumption (don't care as it transformed the ride quality for the better!), but I definitely saw an improvement in mileage when I swapped the wheels/tyres over. My winter tyres (Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3) are 205/55 R16, compared to the OEM 225/45 R17 Pirelli Zero Rossos. I think the narrower tyre probably helps a bit with mileage, as does the fancy low rolling resistance compound in the Michelins.

Slightly OT maybe, but while on the subject of winter tyres... I had another journey home in the snow last night. I passed several abandoned cars and a soon-to-be-abandoned Clio. The Clio's occupants were all waving and shouting to me from the side of the road that I wouldn't make it up a rather steep and very snowy hill, but my Leon just drove up it with only a couple of flashes of the ESP light and left them open mouthed at the bottom of the incline. :D
I'm a total convert to winter tyres and think it's a fantastic upgrade if you live in the sticks and/or commute with a baby in the car, like I do.

Is my facelift TSI FR really that much more economical then? I normally get around 400 to the tank using it on my daily commute to work. It's dropped a bit recently with the cold weather and the roadworks, but I'm averaging around 34mpg according to the computer. :)

im lucky to get 26... not a lot of motorway miles though... still happy to get 300 out of a tank

I took a drive upto Fort William on Sunday plus some commuting on motorways. Filled her up today and took 46 ltrs. (That was using V-Power)

My K1 is standard, but still prety impressive eah :funk: Would deffo have got over 400

Okay okay, so it was prety steady driving staying at about 60mph, but with views like this would you want to be going fast and miss them !! ;)

The TFSI engine is brilliant in my opinion - steady driving in any conditions apart from stop/start urban driving will easily return 400 miles.

Not bad for a 2.0T engine with 200PS - To think that the original Mini was applauded on its launch for it's amazing fuel economy of 30mpg!
