Blind spot mirror glass?

Just wondering if anyone knows whether there is an alternative driver side wing mirror glass available that may cure the over-the shoulder blind spot? I am suffering from this quite badly, perhaps because I am over 6ft and have the seat quite far back.

My other half's ancient Ibiza has a dual angle mirror glass which works quite well.

I'd rather not fit one of those aftermarket blind spot mirrors because they are a) ugly as sin and b) might cause damage to the mirror unit.

Hi sosidge,

just wondering if you're talking about an ALTEA / 5P at all?

... as driver mirror (here in Germany on the left hand side) is IMHO always aspherical.
So should be your right one.

Talking about the passenger side, it's just a convex mirror.

We in Germany already thought about adopting the UK driver's mirror glass for our passenger mirror ... but afaik noone has done so far.
Maybe, if that's behind your question, you could try vice versa?

German asperical mirror driver's side (left) partno: 6L1 857 521
(btw. don't get confused, it's a partno from the Ibiza 6L, which has identical type of mirrors.)

greets ... Klaus

Well, it seems to me that the UK drivers mirror is just a flat piece of glass. So that may explain the poor visibility, if LHD drivers get a better mirror, maybe SEAT couldn't be bothered to manufacture a better mirror for RHD?

Hey sosidge .... I guess I found the reason for this:

SEAT changed their standard driver mirror introducing modelyear 2007 ... they switched from aspherical (like the one jtmac describes) to convex (which assumingly is the one you've got).

The partno for the aspherical mirror glass: 6L2 857 522 - RHD driver's side

Go ask your dealer .... I guess it's worth a try and IMHO a hundred times better than any of the adhesive mirrors from PhilOfCas' link (sorry pal, but they are definitely a no-go)

greets ... Klaus

I agree, but they're cheap though :)

FWIW mine's the lined jobby like jtmac's, pretty faultless in my experience (touch wood etc)

My car is an '07 XL so that would add up.

Any tips on home replacement of mirror glass?
