Im looking at buying a cupra from a fair distance away.. i was given the info so that i could HPI the car, while doing so i though i would check out all the past MOT's online...

On the last MOT under the advisories it says...

EXHAUST EMITS BLUE SMOKE DURING ACCELERATION:confused:

Now ive been searching the forums on blue smoke and 3 things keep popping up... valve seals.. piston rings and a broke turbo...

i am just looking for you advice what the most probable cause would be for emmiting blue smoke under acceleration...

i havent yet contacted the person to ask about the issue which he has neglacted to tell me "hell.. he might have even had the issue fixed" as it was nie on midnight when i found this info out...

but i would just like a bit of info to confront him with...

thanks

sounds like you should possibly steer clear of this cupra mate maybe more hassle than it is worth

The thought had crossed my mind.. but the price im getting it for is unreal.. its low mileage.. HPI clear the lot.... just trying to weigh up... if its a turbo im not that bothered as i will be KO3S-ing it and it will give me even more room to work on the price. but pistonrings isnt exactly the easiest thing to fix...

ive just been talking to a friend mechanic and he offered this advice:

Valve oil seals:- smoke when cold or been left standing, will clear when reving
Piston Rings:- Smoke constantly
Turbo:- smoke under acceleration

does this sound about right to anybody??

cheers

I reckon totally steer clear - if he's not told you that it pumps out blue smoke, how do you know the mileage it really low? I went to see a black cupra years ago and they said it was amazing... got there, everything looked worn out, had 4 different tyres, number plate light was hanging out, back seats were wet (!) and it said only 30k on the clock... Unless he's pretty much giving it to you, it won't be worth it... My Opinion anyway

As above, steer clear - plenty of cheap Cupras out there at the moment it seems.

I went to look at an "HPI clear" car to use as a new daily a few weeks ago and it was clear it had been in an accident and repaired very poorly... if it's not reported then the HPI means nothing
