I want to bolt my pedal box - my glue solution is holding still after 1.5 years but i want to beef it up. Question how the hell do you get your hands in the gap between the pedal box and the bulk head? I dont have bear paws but its tight as hell!

Any pics instructions of how to bolt would be good.

I've searched but can only find pics for the whole replacement not the bolting.

Cheers

Got a bolt and nylon nut today but cant get the nut to tighten and theres no space to get something in on the top of the bolt to hold it firm. How have other people done this??

Alright fella, how's it going?

I tried it with the bolt facing both ways, I can't remember which way round was best though. I have recollections of using a bit of gaffa tape to stick the nut to a spanner so I didn't have to put my fingers up there too.

Can't find any pictures that will help you. The only one related to bolts in my thread is one where i've removed the old pedal box and you can see where i'd drilled the hole for it.

It's just a fiddle to get it in. Helps to remove the drivers seat, gives you a bit more room :)

Alright Ant, my cordless black and decker hammer drill isnt up to it so i've got mains powered reinforcements coming tomorrow. Got a quote of £250 to swap it at a main dealer but if i can bolt it for now i'll be a happy man. Plus don't want to swap in an un reinforced one.

I did my one in my old 1.4 without much fuss , and even managed to drill the hole with the big Bosch drills we use for work. , just pretty much wound the seat down, pushed it as far back as it would go and lay upside down, legs akimbo (with the doors locked ;) ) and got it sorted.

:D

Son of a BITCH!!!!!!!!

The mains powered drill got through it soon enough, it was the metal strips i'd glued on previously to reinforce it that were causing the drill issues, so good that they held but bad to drill through.

Got a bolt in there now but most of the skin that was on my knuckles is also in there too :censored:

Got to do a final tighten up and then screw on a nyloc nut behind the stardard one but as the airs pretty thick in there i'm taking ten minutes............. its been a while since i've sworn so much at the car.

All done, clutch is a lot lighter and seems to be holding everything nice and secure. I'll post pics of my mega botch pedal box later. I think i am going to have to eventually buy a new one and properly reinforce it and have it installed (I aint going in there again), but i've had 20 months out of it since it first started to sheer the welds so not too bad really.

Not a brilliant pic but you get the idea, I had already braced the clutch bracket against the bulk head and various other areas of the pedal box. But now its bolted through the bracing also.

I challenge someone to find a more messy, botched, brilliant way than this!

i didnt bother with a nut and bolt, i reinforced it with another plate..welded it to the left hand side of the metal housing the cable... took all flex out of it...working a charm
