Bonnet Struts

Hey People


On the MK1 Leons they have Gas bonnet struts instead of the stupid metal manual arm has anybody got them for a MK2 yet?

I know the Leon Supercopa Cars have them just wondered if they had been sourced

Its only a little thing but it annoys me

Ive sent an Email to the Supercopa UK Department see if they can point me in the direction but i have noticed the part number on the SuperCopa catologue is 1M5827550B ,Which is the same part number as the Gas struts on the boot of a Toledo 2

I remember a thread about this a while back, i weren't bothered until i spent a lot of time in a company car Golf which had them!

What MK golf was it? 5 or 6

It was a Mk5 1.9 TDi SE, we both popped our bonnets filling the washer fluid. His flew up, mine needed guidance!

Supercopa UK got back to me ,They had to weld something on the bonnet or something


The only problem i can see is that the Golf bonnet is different to Leon


I know with MK4 ibiza there wasnt a Solution but for Fabia and Polo there was

mk5 golf definatly has them, mine did as did the A3 that replaced it. I think the bracket was welded to the inner wing so a bit of fabrication might be needed.

Pretty sure all MK5 Golf's came with the gas struts? Mine certainly did! Can't remember if it was 1 or 2? was a while ago now! I'm also positive last year some put up a similar post and somene ended up fitting the gas struts (Chrome ones iirc?)... definately a nice little mod.

I've painted my bar but the holder is really tight and chipped all the paint so looks naff now. There are universal kits available.

just had a look at the list of ur mods. Wow! Lol Where did ya get the engine start?

Also for these gas lifters, fancy drawing another diagram..? Lol I'm gonna try this myself

I fitted these over two years ago, took a pic of the racing TDI's and copied them!! Using gas struts from a Arosa tail gate, but the doggy thing is the fitting to the bonnet has to be strong because compressed the gas struts have a LOT of energy!!!, you also have to cut away the seal at the back of the engine compartment/wing so when the bonnet is closed the gas strut sits flat etc.
