common fault item, cheapish to replace you could do it yourself if you get the part from euro car parts, then swap out. the N75s offical name is the boost control valve.
VWs offical text on it is :-
The solenoid valve for charge pressure control N75 applies pressure to the charge
pressure control valve on the exhaust gas turbocharger (waste gate).
Valve N75 receives electrical signals (pulse duty factor) from the EDC control unit.
Charge pressure is thus regulated according to a characteristic map.
Feedback on the actual pressure in the intake pipe is provided along a hose connection
routed from the intake pipe to a sensor in the control unit.
If a deviation from the setpoint occurs, the pressure is corrected accordingly.
The charge pressure is also corrected in the control unit by the intake pipe temperature
to make allowance for the effect of temperature on the density of the charge air.
To ensure that the air mass supplied to the engine stays almost constant, the
charge pressure specified map is corrected in dependence on the air pressure using
the information supplied by the altitude sender F96. The charge pressure is reduced
above an altitude of approx. 1500 m to prevent the turbocharger overspeeding in
excessively thin air.

By changing the signal pulse duty factor, more or less intake manifold pressure is applied to the charge pressure control valve on the exhaust gas turbocharger.

Not often, no. If it dies completely then it should do, but if it's just playing up a bit then I wouldn't expect it to, unless it causes other problems that raise a fault as a consequence of a faulty N75.
2nd question
ON the ko3/Ko3s actuator, are they that stiff? jus was checking mines and it was abit hard to move! Do they move easily or are they quite hard.

There are a few... but irregular boost, hesitation, power dips or spikes or a lack of boost can all be related to a faulty N75
Sounds like mine is faulty then,
noticed that it has the odd slight hesitation and spike now and then.
Where would i get one from and could someone like me (little tech knowledge) be able to change it?
You can get them from Seat, Audi, VW, Skoda... or places like GSF, Euro Car Parts, VagParts.co.uk or even second hand usually.

Hey rob, I noticed on hard acceleration the power delivery is up and down, hard to explain but its not very smooth, kinda goes more, less, more, less, more (man i'm crap at explaining myself)
Anyways, does the N75 sound like the culprit?
It could be any number of things, but the N75 is a possibility.
The trouble, the symptoms you and other people have described could relate to a couple of things, the MAF and N75 being the favourite two options. They can both cause very similar problems with very similar affects.

So i guess the first thing to try is disconecting the MAF for a short time and seeing if that makes any difference???
