Cupra TDi with 112K on the clock.

This fault started in winter last year but seemed to fade off in the warm summer months. Recently the temperatures have dropped and the fault has returned...

If the engine is under moderate load and the accelerator is slowly/gently depressed to engage the turbo, boost doesn't occur in the a smooth fashion as it used to. The boost flutters on and off, a sort of jerky kangaroo-ing motion takes place. The issue is worse in the higher gears.

However on wide open throttle the issue is not as noticeable.

VAG com displays NO error codes.

Any ideas??

Thanks :)

Couple of things come to mind that might be worth a look.. Check the fuel filter - quite often doesn't get changed during a service. Don't put a crap quality one in either.

Check boost hoses for obvious leaks or damage (boost hoses can expand if damaged)

Also - could be sticky turbo. Give it an italian tune up ;)

Just checked the service history and found that fuel filter hasn't been changed in over three years! I'm guessing this filter should be replaced every 12K miles? I'll get the hoses checked also.

Christ, I bet that's gummed up to the hilt then - even if it doesn't nail this problem down it'll help no end I'm sure. I change mine every service regardless because it's not all that expensive. I had no end of limp mode problems with my Cupra until I changed mine, and like you it was obvious it had not been changed by the previous owner in a long (!) time.

I'll find out today when the local garage changes the filter. Thanks for the info here, I'll have the filter changed on a more regular basis in future.
