well at least you know if you get it mapped it will go even better.

didnt realise the difference between vagcom and gauge readings.

yeah, so i guess 10 psi means turbo is still alive and hasnt given in yet?

it sounds fine.
there pretty reliable turbos. might be an idea to fit a boost gauge at some point.

enjoy:)

phewww lol , thanks man, thought turbo is dying

when i get a new turbo am gonna fit a gauge, i know the turbo link i posted, probably has bad reviews but lets say i wanna put that one on, do i need to make any modifications?

thanks,

so whatever boost pressure vag-com reads reads, i have to deduct 1000 mbar?

well that means i get around 700mbar which is about 10 psi.

so this is normal? or too low?

thanks,

Yes mate that's right and the spike figure is normal for non-mapped. Soz I probably didn't explain it that well!

yes.
deduct the start millibar reading (engine off, ign on) from the logged ones to get the actual boost.

so a logged max of 1700mb is ((1700-1000)/1000)*14.5 to get psi pressure of 10.15psi

This is std levels. Once mapped you would see 2200mb - 2400mb peak to 2000mb sustained

thanks,

Please dont:cry:. The turbo you have on there already is excellent and very quick when mapped. that unknown ebay turbo has no info on it. it will most likely crack under load.
youd struggle to find anyone to map it as its a risk/unknown ability/quality.

mapping your current turbo will give approx 220bhp. add a good exhaust and you may see around 235+. youll proberly want to look at handling next.

if you want more go for a known turbo upgrade that tuners know and other forum members have/are using. check out some of the threads in the big turbo section.

its not cheap as youll also need bigger injectors, fuel pump fmic ect...

you sound convienced the turbo isnt going to last as it is?

first of all thanks for all the help and replies, i appriciate it alot

now i get it how this psi and mbar stuff is calculated, thanks again to every one.

in regards to changing turbo, well if i have to change injectors, fuel pumps etc, then am gonna leave the turbo in coz to be honest I thought it was a straight replacement, i dont wanna spend too much on it. is there any turbo upgrades that does not require any other changes apart from the turbo itself? lol

i think 220bhp would be good enough for me without any changes so i will probably just go for that in the future.

i have this delima that mappaing you car is like giving your engine a slow death. some people say mapping the car shortens the engine life.

to what degree is this true?

and i dont think the turbo is dying at the moment, if it can give the standard level of boost then i think its ok.

if it was dying then it should give less boost, and probably cause other issues aswell no?

quiet frankly i dont think the lady before me ever went above 2000 rpm lol. car drives like new, my mate who got a gti turbo 150bhp, his car has done only 51000 and when he drove my car, he couldnt believe the speed.

remapping will push the engine harder. but hard to define how much wear your adding.

i can think of 3 off the top of my head running 300bhp + in the same car as yours. engine is very strong in that sense. mines now done around 90k (15k with 300bhp), caveos has done similar.

you can always take the map off if you wanted. as long as your cars in good health you should be fine. a decent tuner would rectify any issues found during map.

do pick a knowledgable tuning company that knows your engine. id personally reccomend jabbasport as they did a cracking job on mine... but theres a few out there worth looking at. Bill at Badger5 would be worth a look. the actual maps are very similar but having faith in the tuner is worth its weight.

the forum is packed with experiences/knowledge. hang around on here long enough and youll learn loads about your car.:)

unless your car is smoking, very noisy,or powerless id assume your turbos fine. stop worrying;)

thanks for all the info, i will deff hang around.

i would also like to know if there are any turbo upgrades which can be a direct replacement? without any other modifications?

Thanks,
