If i let off the pedal before boosting too much I get a little woosh

But if the boost builds up more than I let off its like a chatter

This was a brand new DV from forge, need to find what everyone else's is like don't want to bugger the turbo

As far as I know, the 007 doesn't chatter. With an air filter, you should get a ptshhh sound under low boost, this is then replaced by the same sound but higher pitched at high revs. This is with it fitted the "right" way round (upright). If its sideways, you get a different, louder sound but it's more like a chirp so I believe. If you want to 'dump' loud...remap!

I'm not bothered about it been loud i just want it right

Thats the word thats better a chirp which best descibes mine

but mine is fitted the right way round I have tried it both ways and no difference

Any ideas?

Sorry Dougy, the loudness thing was for the chappy with Starlet.

As far as I know, chirping is fine. As long as the jubilee clips are tight round the connections of the DV and not crushing the pipe anywhere else, that's fine also.

If it's not making Cosworth sounding chattering, then you are all good I think.

In terms of spring rate - if it's opening under low boost, which it sounds like it is, then opening under high boost should not be a problem. maybe the valve is not opening fully, thus causing back pressure & the chatter because the pressure can't pass through the DV quick enough? maybe check that the piston operates freely and give the whole unit a good clean up if it looks like it needs it.

hold your finger over the nipple on the top and push the piston up with your finger. if it stays up then its fine. if it drops back down then contact forge.

but like i said what you described is chatter but i think we really really need to hear it

Ye i will record it when I get home as I am a bit concerned

As said before its not like a rally car chatter but its def not the woosh

Bit strange as this is less than 1 month old from Forge

thanks for all the replies guys. i'm still really confused though about which one to get. the turbosmart one is a pricey for me so i'm thinking maybe the quote - Bailey

Category : Bailey Dump Valves

Sub-category : Bailey - DV30 Dump Valves

Application : Seat Ibiza/Leon 1.8 20v Turbo - Blue

Product Code: B-DV30BU

Details : Anodised blue finish.

Price: £82.80 inc VAT

Delivery: £8.00

but will this be any better/louder than the forge one i already have on the car ? the forge on i have now really is quiet though, you can only hear it when you have the stereo off and when you hit full boost and even then it's not loud. i realise it's never going to be as loud as the bailey on my glanza whichever one i get but just something a little louder would be nice.

thanks.

probably not.

i wish you lived closer to me so you could check my cupra out. i really need someone with experience of cupra's to have a good look over the car to see if any of the common faults and mods etc have been done because this is the first seat i've ever had and it's so different to the glanza in every way. anyway, this is a bit of a silly question but just off the top of your head mr_D, do you think your turbosmart dv is as loud as the bov on my glanza ? i know it's a stupid question as you've not heard my bov but you obviously know what your talking about when it comes to turbo's and bov/dv's etc so you've probably got a fair idea of what it sounds like. what do you reckon ?

To say it would be much louder is an understatement. Put it this way, mine was louder than ANY other dump valve ive ever heard, inc scoobys, evos ect...

and that was on a cupra ? what other mods did the cupra have and what boost was it running ?

The risk you run with running a dual port valve is that it can throw the car into limp mode, it thinks it has a boost leak. If you set up the Turbosmart or Forge Split R correctly, you can avoid this but your car won't run as sweetly as it would with a fully recirculating valve (or the other two set to fully recirc mode).

Recirculating valves are designed to be quiet on a standard engine, as close to the quietness of an OEM valve as possible. However, once you start to modify other areas, you can make them pretty loud. You will achieve this by fitting an open cone air filter for one, a new turbo inlet pipe secondly and then by getting a remap. A remapped engine will produce alot more turbo pressure than one without a remap, this therefore will cause the DV to be louder.

By all means try out a dual port valve but if you want the best from you car performance wise, stick with the Forge that you have.
