ok so i went to change brake pads

and you know where the carrier bolts to the hub (well this part of the hub can be removed)
it has slide in bolts (which the carrier bolts to)

well one of them was sheared clean off, then someone has tried to bodge it up, now it won't come back on

so i need to find that part now?
i got 280's, so what other cars fit in the range? mk3 golf gti's?
mk2 gti's had 256's right?
gutted, to add to the brake lights not working too arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

mk2 and mk3 8vs gtis had 256. i bet your brake light switch on the pedal has come loose.

nope switch is fine, checked it first, i think i pulled a wire when i was taking the parcel shelf off

i need to sort this out ASAP, i think it is a slider thing, dunno it's proper name!

if its inside the carrier then you wont be able to get it out. give GSF a call they will probably have one in stock when they open. but you may need new carrier.

no i think you seen wrong one

i meant the thing that bolts to the hub (then the carrier bolts to that)

wait i had a mare, called the carrier the caliper

lemme rephrase this all

so basically the carrier attaches to the hub, then the caliper attaches to the carrier
sorry been a long day :( lol

point it out on here:

bottom right corner (if you take the bolt that attaches the caliper on, the thing around the disc brake)
you get what i mean?

yep that's the one, you know the bolt (non-threaded) goes into it
well the it was sheared in it :( so need new carrier!

i thought it was that. needs carrier and new slider (non threaded bolt that goes into carrier then a bolt through caliper and into the slider)

8v slider pins are the same. But im not sure what he's on about now, i think he might mean the actual caliper carrier.

One of the slider pins has seized inside the carrier and snapped off.

(That's my interpretation) :D

Hmm, but only the bolt goes through the carrier and it isn't threaded. If such has happened case of drill out snapped bolt from the carrier. Then drill+tap the snapped off bolt in the slider pin.

not that easy. i did one the other week, had to drill through the other end, put some serious heat on the carrier and smash it out with a big punch and hammer then use chemical metal to cover the hole in the carrier. and breathe...

Why are we calling the caliper the carrier now? I found loads of wd40 and an impact gun and just spin the slider pin for ages unseizes it in the end.
