Mk2 1.4 has fixed carriers built into the hub, so if you wanted to fit anything else, then you need to swap the hubs first, and then you can fit pretty much anything else: 256mm (Mk2 8v), 280mm (Mk2 16v / Mk3 20v) or even 305mm brembo's (Mk3 Cupra R) ;)

Will I just have to buy a set of hubs from an 8v/16v Gti?? I wouldnt mind buying new ones as they arent that expensive and I could just do the wheel bearings at the same time.
