Brembo Brake Pads - Mileage question, not which ones to get :)

Just been told by the dealer that my Brembo pads are 85% worn during it's 20K service.

The car has only covered 7200 miles . :headhurt:

I know it varies from driver to driver and how heavy they use the brakes, journeys etc.. but does any one else think this is very low?.

I got the car when it was one year old and had only covered just under 2500 miles, I actually hit this mileage driving it home. You would think with that low a mileage the previous owner would have drove it sensibly :D

I mainly use the engine/gears and do not consider to use the brakes that heavy. I do cover mainly short town journeys but even so that is a pain after paying for tax and servicing this month.

Quoted £122 for the Brembos without fitting but will prob ask Bill for some Ferrodo's.

Anyone had to replace these in less or similar?

It all boils down to whether you trust the dealer, !

TBH it is a Skoda dealer and although the first time I've used them, they have just given me an excellent price on my 20K service, brake fluid change and fitting of front splitter. They were not pushing me into replacing the pads, they even thought £122 was a bit much. I told them I'll source myself and the service guy didn't say anything.

They must know I can always take it to an independant and get a free brake check.

Still 7200 miles seems low

It's my understanding (maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong) that the LCR pads with Brembo's are thinner than normal pads to start with so minimum pad thickness before replacing is less too.

Maybe the Skoda dealer isn't familiar with them?

My LCR with BT and grooved discs has done over 7k miles now since fitting and pads are fine as far as I can tell (Ferodo's).

If its any help I am still on original pads on my LCR and I have covered 32,000 miles. My driving style sounds similar to yours.
There is still about 3 mm on the front pads so I reckon I will get another couple of hundred out of them.

32,000 miles  I don't expect them to last that long at the moment I'd be happy with 20K

I had mine changed about a month after my 10k service, something like 11-12k miles. They showed me the old pads, and they were almost down to the backing plates.

Then just before my 20k service, I went up to see Bill @ Badger. He fitted Brembo grooved discs, Ferodo DS pads & he did a brake fluid change.

I thought I was fairly heavy on the brakes, but having read numerous Brembo related posts, 10k from a set of pads is 'the norm'.

I'd definately recommend giving the Ferodo DS pads a try. They're a huge improvement over the standard pads as far as stopping power goes, and very little fade after repeated heavy use, and they're a lot less dusty (alloys stay cleaner for longer).

Johnny thanks, makes me feel a little better. I only do short journeys most of the time. Covering 1-2k miles would take me months. Usually a lot of stop/start city centre traffic with the odd dual carrigeway etc.. Not been far on the motorways in this motor since I bought it a year ago today.

I will get the DS pads next I think. When the discs are worn, I'll also have a look at the grooved brembo discs or maybe the new grooved ebc ones.

Perhaps mine last so long because most of my mileage is on the dual carriageway and open country roads. Oh the joy of country living! Doesnt stop me getting through a set of front tyres in 10,000 miles though!

maybe an indicator to the previous owner.
or was it a seat demo car? perhaps someone has been giving it some stick prior to you owning it.

edit:
btw why is it having it's 20k service at 7200 miles?or have i read it wrong?

No it was just a woman (no comment), maybe the raw power of the LCR was too much for her and she did little mileage and rode the brakes eveywhere

Sorry female LCR owners

because that's all it's done in two years :D

2500 in year one by the previous owner and serviced by the garage I bought it from on it's first birthday.

and roughly 5000 by me this year but I've hit the time interval for the service anyway. 30 K service will probably be done with only 13K on the clock
